"The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather in a lack of will." V. Lombardi
Untitled Poem (later called "Invictus"---"Unconquered")
by WE Henley
"Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul."
Keep trudging on. Don't give up.

"But there is suffering in life, and there are defeats. No one can avoid them. But it's better to lose some of the battles in the struggles for your dreams than to be defeated without ever knowing what you're fighting for." P. Coelho
Profit From Failure
The test of a man is the fight he makes,
The grit that he daily shows;
The way he stands on his feet and takes
Fate's numerous bumps and blows.
A coward can smile when there's naught to fear,
When nothing his progress bars;
But it takes a man to stand up and cheer
While some other fellow stars.
It isn't the victory, after all,
But the fight that a brother makes;
The man who, driven against the wall,
Still stands up erect and takes
The blows of fate with his head held high;
Bleeding, and bruised, and pale,
Is the man who'll win in the by and by,
For he isn't afraid to fail.
It's the bumps you get, and the jolts you get,
And the shocks that your courage stands,
The hours of sorrow and vain regret,
The prize that escapes your hands,
That test your mettle and prove your worth;
It isn't the blows you deal,
But the blows you take on the good old earth,
That show if your stuff is real.

“The best revenge is massive success.”
F. Sinatra
It Couldn't Be Done
Edgar Guest
Somebody said that it couldn't be done,
But, he with a chuckle replied
That "maybe it couldn't" but he would be one
Who wouldn't say so till he'd tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn't be done, as he did it.
Somebody scoffed: "Oh, you'll never do that;
At least no one we know has done it";
But he took off his coat and he took off his hat,
And the first thing we knew he'd begun it.
With a lift of his chin and a bit of a grin,
Without any doubting or quiddit,
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn't be done, and he did it.
There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,
There are thousands to prophesy failure;
There are thousands to point out to you, one by one,
The dangers that wait to assail you.
But just buckle right in with a bit of a grin,
Just take off your coat and go to it;
Just start to sing as you tackle the thing
That cannot be done, and you'll do it
Not This Love Bug Again

Yeah I know I'm usually not this sappy...but crap it's that season again. Ever been single for a while and enjoy the life, and when that one person comes around the corner that puts the damn butterflies in your stomach again you don't know what to do? Well it's like that for me right now.
I've been loving the single life. A life without excuse. I can go wherever I like, whenever I like. I hang out with anyone, tons of chics ("hangout" LOL), in clubs or in bars and I don't feel guilty. Yeah it gets lonely once in a while, but I love the freedom. But there's this chic, I can't seem to shake it off. She's pretty (I should say beautiful), she's got a nice body, interesting personality, spunky, she makes more money than I, independent (one of her best traits), a really good person, and when know so many people together it's like a family when we hang out. And I think we both give each other hints that the feeling is mutual...but it's so hard to decide. Freedom or happiness? It's kinda irritating how she just pops in my mind like a little boy thinking about when the ice cream truck is rolling by next time.
It's like I don't know how to be in the mood it's been so long. I never really got to hang out with her that much that I was so enchanted I just let her talk the whole time. It's definitely nice looking at her! LOL. So I think I'm just going to let things happen. I'm going to give a little tug and see what happens. Good things happen in due time, and this time I think I can keep freedom without being too lonely. Let's just say winter is right around the corner and it'd be nice not too be too cold this time. LOL.
Goddammit Feet Don't Fail Me Now LOL

Man it's been quiet excruciating running with plantar fasciitis. Walking is okay, but it's not comfortable either . I've been just taking the pain in and making my mileage, but damn I got go back doing our old timed workouts for cardio for a while I think, I guess I'll check out LA Boxing, they have a cheap military program or something one specialist told me. Hopefully it's not going to set me back, I want to compete at the half marathon next month, and I got trails to run before the snow starts.
If you could give me a favor you worthless feet, get healed in a week please!

"It's not the hand that your dealt with, it's how you play with your cards..." Ludacris
I figure this one's a hip hop themed post since I just love this quote from TI. Amen.
'Let me tell you how you measure a man..
When his world starts to fall see how tall he stands..
It matters not how many times you fall down..
What matters most is how many times you rise..
Mistakes build character..
And character takes you places money cant..'

If
Rudyard Kipling
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;
If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools;
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!

Undressing
Rumi
Learn the alchemy
True Human Beings know:
the moment you accept
what troubles you’ve been given,
the door opens.
Welcome difficulty as a familiar comrade.
Joke with torment brought by the friend.
Sorrows are the rags of old clothes
and jackets that serve to cover,
and then are taken off.
That undressing,
and the beautiful
naked body
underneath is the sweetness
that comes
after grief.

The Victor
by: C. W. Longenecker
If you think you are beaten, you are.
If you think you dare not, you don't.
If you like to win but think you can't,
It's almost a cinch you won't.
If you think you'll lose, you're lost.
For out in the world we find
Success begins with a fellow's will.
It's all in the state of mind.
If you think you are out classed, you are.
You've got to think high to rise.
You've got to be sure of your-self before
You can ever win the prize.
Life's battles don't always go
To the stronger or faster man.
But sooner or later, the man who wins
Is the man who thinks he can.
You Against the World

"The strongest man in the world is he who stands most alone." H. Ibsen
It's funny how when you're happy it seems there's tons of people with you. But when you're standing against a storm, you're all by yourself. Haha. But you gotta thank life for that. I think when you're by yourself you find a lot about yourself; when you have to figure things out on your own because nobody wants to burden the whirlwind with you, it really defines you as a man. There's this man I met at the airport some months ago and I agree with, that when you have to shoulder the biggest burden in life you get to know the little things in you that is who you are: it is hardest times that is your defining moment, not with the good, and usually by yourself. "Welcome to adulthood." It's great that I find redemption in myself.
