a-camping we will go, heigh ho, the dairy-o, a camping we will go!
in canada (and perhaps across the british commonwealth?), next monday will be victoria day which means that this weekend is an extended weekend otherwise known as may 24 (pronounced two-four because all us canucks go out and purchase 24s of beer and generally have a jolly good time) weekend. this year me and some buddies have planned a camping trip to some relatively unknown location out in the boonies. although, if you've ever been to ontario, you'd know that there are an awful lot of boonies. now i've never been to this place but my friend speaks quite highly of it. i'm told the campground is situated next to a beautiful lake with plenty of scenery and lots of hiking trails to boot. lol, and at night, the owner of the campground turns his little rental shack into a karaoke bar and most of what he's got is country music! last year my friend requested billy jean and out came....you guessed it, a country version of billy jean! lmao! can you imagine that? my only real gripe is that we probably won't be able to swim because the water will be kinda chilly. well, i suppose i could swim but then i'd run the chance of cutting random pieces of glass and piercing people's eyes with my diamond-hard nipples.
and i'm not sure i want to do that.
anyway it's a great chance to escape the concrete jungle, if only for a while, and summon my inner hemingway (err...before the whole suicide thing). i may even return speaking and posting in his signature laconic style! it should be a good time. i am excited. i am feeling happy. camping is great. lol. the end.

a lot of people i know say they listen to everything, then pause for a second, and then complete their sentence with "except for country" or some other less popular genre. not me. i'll listen to it and i'll like it.
here are a few choice songs from my current playlist.
canada's golden child. she cleaned house at this year's juno's.....while hosting the damn show no less. for my american buddies who aren't in the know, a juno is canada's equivalent of the grammy.
nelly furtado - all good things (come to an end)
one of my best friends is trained in classical guitar and boy can he ever play. his main style is flamenco and he used to jam for us all the time back when we lived in the dorms. this is my favourite song off of il divo's latest album, siempre. it's very much a spanish infused album with ample use of the classical guitar.
il divo - la vida sin amor
as far as billboards go, it's been timbaland's year.
timbaland feat. fall out boy - one & only
i've been listening to quite a bit of oldschool hip hop these days. mid 90s is considered oldschool, right? mcs cared a lot more about lyrics just 10 years ago.
jay z - dead presidents ii
let's go real oldschool now. the late, great otis redding. love him.
otis redding - the dock of the bay

in escapist phantasy for just a moment. in my part of the world, we've had beautiful weather lately, but today there has been some overcast.
while lying down on the grass in my backyard i began to think of the most relaxing getaways. this very second, i would probably sell a limb or two to be here, sitting on one of these, holding a bottle of this in my right hand, while listening to this playing in the background.
soothing.
ooh my first entry

the forum upgrades are pretty neat. i was a little worried things would lag like crazy but it hasn't been bad for the most part. the fact that i've had about 30 anonymous views creeps me out just a lil' bit, but i'll deal.
....moving on....
i celebrated my birthday this weekend! on april 19, 1919, shoehorn's spaceship ran out of fuel and crash-landed onto this crazy @$$ planet. nearly an exact year before, on the 23rd, a similar series of unfortunate events had befallen his friend. umm...yeah, that's right. so we chose to kill two birds with one stone by getting friends together to go out on the 21st instead. for whatever reason, it was decided that all the guys had to wear ties and dammit, it's been a while since i've worn one of those things. fine, i say. i'll just google various tie tying methods and roll with it. it took me about an hour but i became decent enough with the half-windsor knot. saturday comes around and everybody meets up at the restaurant. turns out that only two of us wore them! i was not impressed. oh well. went out later that night and we all had a great time. i was pretty tired by the end of it all but was able to muster just enough energy for a super nice guy pose.
