do you guys think in a way that no one realli like their job and ppl as a whole just do it for money.
look at teachers -once it hits 3 oclock most teachers are gone home. if they love their jobs, they would have stayed longer.
look at doctors its like they don't care about their job and just wants patients out realli fast so they can carry on to the next patient.-why more money.

would anyone here do a job they didn;t like at all , but would still do it b/c it paid a lot of $$. example police officers get paid quite a lot ,but endangers to ones -could get shot at. accounting hate numbers, but would do it since it pays well. how importants is money vs liking a job.

what do u say to ur folks if they tell u to get into a trade or field ,and u dislike it. one reason they want u to get into it is b/c it pays a lot of $$$$, and is the only reason. Plumbing -what do u guys think. i'm not into getting down and dirty and fixing ppl's pipes. i'm 26 and i don;t think i can do grunt work-whcih is the kind of work one has to do in the beginning and get paid very little. I'm not that big either 5 7 150. But yes they can make 65/hr -self employed maybe even more. why do my chinese parents who are first generation chinese-care soo much about money. money this and that and making money.while white western ppl think more about hey do u like what ur are doin and if not quit it.

do u guys think ppl do their job for the love of it or just for the sole purpose of money money. no one reealli like their job and just wants to be paid. money is king and is so important in choosing a career. go into trades like fixing some pipes just b/c it pays a lot. become a doctor not to help ppl,but it makes a lot of $$ and ppl would respect u since u own big property and nice things. how about this sayin "you don't like it, who cares force urself to like it since it pays a lot of money." "you force urself to be good at it and like it" why pays lot of money

I am not aiming to do a job that I don't like. Hell I gave up an almost free college education to pursue my dream job, I don't really care aout money in this stage of my life.

I think its mostly for money.

Some people love it but I think a lot of the general population, deep down inside, wishes that they werent slaves. Its the greatest misfortune for a fresh mind when it has to work under someone whos a fool. I've had bosses like that...fu-king thick skull cavemen kinda guys who werent smart but instead just worked really hard to get to management or whatever. I usually get fired or fallout with them. embarassedlaugh.gif

It depends on how desperate I am. When I ran away from home I would've scrubbed toilets in order to survive. But for a lifelong career it has to be something that I could tolerate and which fits my personality. For example, if you have ADD you shouldn't become a CPA no matter how well it pays because you'll most likely burn out and then you'll waste time, money, and/or energy switching careers.

No amount of money would get me to permanently take on a career that I hate or would endanger my life to a high degree.

Yes if that pays me well.Lets be realistic, what's the point of doing one job if the pay is not enough for u to pay all the house, car loans and buy all the luxurious items?I want to be a novelist, but how much can I earn per month? How many years does it take before becoming a renowned novelist? Most likely at the end,I will regret the choices I made and die without making a name out of myself.

I suppose it depends on the situation. I know my dad works a good 55 hours a week, and he's an electrical engineer who doesn't enjoy doing his job all that much. Nevertheless, his hard work and good investing has allowed my family to live comfortably and put my sister through college. In theory, I would say there's no point continuing something, eg. a degree, career, just for the $$ if isn't enjoyable, but in practice, I think I'm the type of person that would stick to it regardless. I mean, yeah, money can't buy you happiness, but hey, it sure buys you a lot of options. Plus, being Chinese and all, my parents would probably chuck a fit as well, if I were to land a low paying job.

So yeah, I agree that money is a major deciding factor for most people when it comes to choosing a career. Seriously, how many people do you know that can actually truly say that they'd continue pursuing their job regardless of whether or not they were getting paid? We're all pretty much slaves to capitalism.

Those examples don't apply here.
Maybe at your school teachers were out at 3 but over here most are still there at 6.
Doctors have to be efficient especially when it comes to the bed allocation, NHS issues here at least.
Police officers here have crappy wages - around £35k for a sergeant with 4yrs experience.
Not all accountants do it for the money its dumb to assume that because its not something you would consider interesting that everyone who does it is in it solely for the money. I considered accounting and it wasn't solely for the money, I was pretty good at maths at A level and it would have been a logical step neither would I have considered the work boring at least not initially but I was worried that it would eventually become rather monotonous.

As for being a plumber my parents would never suggest blue collar work and if thats not the kind of work you want to do just tell them so and tell them to get off your back. And as for your idea that people only do that for the money thats ridiculous, not everyone is intelligent in the academic sense, a lot of those that aren't end up with blue collar jobs because thats all they can get but it doesn't mean they don't enjoy it. Quite a few of those that aren't academic simply aren't so because they didn't apply themselves or because the academic side of things didn't appeal to them, its not uncommon for some people to prefer blue collar work though really why they do is beyond me.

I went into the legal profession because its something I was interested in and because of the money, the money was definitely an incentive but if I hadn't enjoyed studying law whilst at university I probably wouldn't have pursued a career in this profession. Though obviously I can't speak for everyone in this field and I know that whilst at university a lot of my classmates pursued law for the money but to have a longstanding career in this profession in my opinion you need to get some form of pleasure from it.

God you're 26 and you're always making topics about your parents and lack of success with women, just be a fu-king man and stand up to them.

short answer- money matters if you want to survive in this world.

my reasons are to provide my family with the same stability and comfort my family gave me growing up. you can do a profession you love and make money at the same time (just have to be smart about it).

I admire those folks that can chuck it all and not care, but I won't do that to my parents.

I like my job. It's emotionally and physically straining, but I wouldn't trade it for the world.

No, I would never do something that I hated even if it paid 100x more than what I do now.

It's about job satisfaction not the money. Money is only good in the short term, you spend countless hours at work of course you got to enjoy it!
I love my job, it's fun, interesting and challenging!

For most people, money just isn't enough. Look at the numbers of people who leave i-banking and biglaw after a few years.

I heard that the doctors don't get paid good enough until seniority or something I guess. Anyway I heard the medical field isn't worth it cause of the workers and environment. So you mostly want to pursue that job if you love helping people.

ooh wows.. i wrote an essay about this titled 'dispassionate professionals' that targeted teachers and doctors for their lack of passion for their career and how it affects everyone.
