Right i'm a junior in HS, and i'm debating whether I should get a job or should i focus on school more? If i were to apply for a job, please recommend few places that i can try. My mom wanted me to work at the movies. But i refuse. |

WHy refuse working in the MOvies?
The reason im jobless is cuz I try to focus more on academics (im semi stupid), but I think u should get a job bcuz its a whole lot funner. A suggestion for a job would be in a ice cream shop (coldstone, baskinrobin) bcuz u would get free AND YUMMY ice cream |

if you have extra time on your hands, get a job. It isn't just getting a job, theres a bigger picture you mom wants you to see and you can only see it until you start handling your own finances.

I think it depends on the type of person you are. Would you still do well enough in school with a job or will you just sleep after work? Or in my case...at school. haha.
Junior year you should be thinking of which school to aim for if you plan to goto college. Then Senior year is when you need to work your butt off for that school. Anyways back to the topic.... Not many places to apply while your in HS. Fast food, theater, clothing stores, etc. Do you like clothes? Work at Holister or something. The pay sucks but it isn't too bad. Plus you get discounts. |

Try McDonalds!!!
Fast food is a good start toward attaining good work ethics through dealing with difficult personalities and accepting orders from your superiors. |

Find a nice clothing store in a mall and do retail. Most girls i've known at that age did that. |

Hi Panda, are you around 16 years old right now? It's actually not a bad idea to work a part-time job. It's always good to have gained some work experience during high school if you can handle that in addition to your courses. I wish I could have had the motivation to work a part-time job when I was in high school, to be honest. You'll definitely become better at solving problems and dealing with others. And your age is a good age to start doing that. Just remember that school is still the most important thing. So just work two days, or even one, per week.
EDIT: Almost forgot. I suggest you try finding work at the mall. There are lots of jobs you can apply for there. In retail, etc. And lots of places are probably hiring around this time of the year. This post has been edited by Xian: Nov 25 2007, 10:10 PM |
