Song Dynasty Winged Tigers, any other information? Options

I found a questionable reference to a type of Song Dynasty warrior called "Winged Tiger" at a modeling site, a model of which is shown below:



I could not find any other sources in this context, except for a Chinese novel character in "Outlaws of the Marsh", named Lei Heng, being referred to as "Winged Tiger". Can anyone else shed some light on this name? Was there really such a warrior type in the Song Dynasty?

Please provide more information. I've never heard of this unit. It might just be a made-up term in the novel.

I think you are referring to Lei Heng- one of the 108 rebels of Liang Shan Po.-during the Bei Sung (Northern Sung) period under the reign of Sung Hui Sun (1101-1125).

I am sure the warrior is genuine as China was engaging in many fronts - first Liaoguo, then Jin guo then the Mongols.

There wasn't a warrior type like that. Cha Chi Hu 插翅虎 ( Winged Tiger) was just the nickname of Lei Heng.

I'm not pointing at Lei Heng specifically. I'm just mentioning on the side that he was the only reference I could find to a Chinese "Winged Tiger". But he was just one person, whereas the modeling site was about battle units, not celebrities.

Interestingly, I just began to play "Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom", and the scene of the Shang Dynasty had warriors wearing this kind of armor, minus the feathered fringes and red shirt.

It's Shui Hu Chuan (not Sui Wu Zuan) and Sung (not Soong).

Other names include The Water Margin and All Men are Brothers.

Frankly, I think the only true warrior in the story was Lin Chung. The rest are thugs and criminals.

Details are sketchy but if you read Shui Hu Chuan, it says that Lei Heng commanded mostly outlaws, thugs and criminals in Liang Shang Po (in Shangtung). The rebel troops were often color coded (black, yellow, red etc...)with a special banner indicating Lei Heng's command (such as his last name on the flag).

Hey DaMo, I thought you said you didn't have time to play Emperor.

That was during the tyrannical slavery of the "Midterm Tests Dynasty". Now I have entered the peaceful idyllic "Spring Break Era".

By the way, I just completed the first level of the Shang Dynasty. It's quite addictive once you get into it. But a lot tougher and more complex than most other sims, in my opinion.
