iPad, Xoom, Playbook... all these names are some famous tablet computer.

However, I'm still fatigue about its benefits. So the first question is what is tablet computer purpose? Who best fit to use this piece of technology? Is it better than laptop? what about compare to smartphone?

from what i seen. it's not as multi-task as laptop. it's a breed between smartphone and laptop to be honest.

it's good if you need a quick boost up to browse the web, read e-news, shopping, some fun game. and it's handy consider its size.

but if you have a smartphone and a laptop already, it's pointless to buy tablet. unless you want to waste money, then hey go for it.

Tablet PCs first appeared in the year 2000 and it is called the SonicBlue Pro Gear and they were extensively used by the people in the professional sector. They were not still called Tablets they are called Pads but the Pro Gear is considered to be the first Tablet PC.

In 1995 I worked in a computer graphics design company and I was using a Wacom Graphics Tablet instead of a keyboard and mouse and it made my work faster and more productive.

Some people need it some people don't.

Tablet PCs are very useful in the defense sector were mouse and keyboard are not that useful.

Computer Graphic Artists hate the mouse and keyboard.

Tablet PCs also will benefit Musicians.

Tablet PCs is already an old technology exclusively used by the professiional sector but it was only commercialized by IPad.

there are plenty of ways to benefit from using a tablet.
aside from being low on the power end, a tablet should not be a laptop in terms of power.
the Apple ipad is a perfect example of power consumption a long with user-ability.

It's more mobile than a netbook and less bloated. In terms of processing power, they're about on par with the newer generation of smart phones.

If a Tablet PC uses the Qualcom or ARM processor of the smartphone then it is a smartphone with a bigger screen like the Ipad which is a big smartphone but some Tablet PCs do not use the processor of a smartphone like the ADAM tablet PC which does not have even phone functions but it is as powerful than a netbook because it has a Dual Core Cortex processor which is a processor designed for netbooks and gamepads and the ADAM tablet pc is just half the price of an Ipad.

Adam Tablet PC

Some Tablet PCs are even as powerful as a desktop like the Motion Tablet PCs which have Intel Dual Core.

Tablet PC are really good to use.It will save our time and better to carry with anywhere and battery is also better than any laptop.Today most of Tablet come with multitasking and duel core processor.Tablet PC is combination of smartphone and laptop.I don't say that it will give you every feature of laptop. My favorite tablet is Acer Iconia A500.

@Nikkie_nid,

A tablet PC is a wireless, portable personal computer with a touch screen interface. The tablet form factor is typically smaller than a notebook computer but larger than a smart phone.

I thing Xoom best fit in this technology..and this is better then laptop because this is more portable and you can rotate its screen 180 degree ..

Goodluck!!

What about internet connection?

I can use the laptop and visit the web everywhere too, as long as there is Wi-Fi or internet connection access.

I don't have a tablet and won't even buy it in near future. It won't replace my pc, I have a smartphone, what else do I need? Nothing.

I have a Desktop, Notebook, Tablet and a Smart Phone.

In the outdoors the Tablet is the best it is like a Notebook and Smarphone combined. For example when I am walking in a mall the Tablet is useful in surfing the internet, sending emails, sending messages, editing server scripts and it is also very useful for presentations. Smart Phones can also do those things but it is to small and I have to zoom and pan to read which is sometimes annoying.

If you are doing anything that needs processing power, or if you will be typing a lot, you are better off with a notebook or a netbook. Otherwise a tablet (or at least iPad) is pretty good.
