On smaller cars with front wheel drive, there isn't much of a problem even in wintry weather
However, on bigger cars like crossovers and SUV's, all wheel drive is preferable so it makes it easier to travel in bad weather. Still, much of the time, one doesn't take SUV off road and pretty much 9 months out of the year the weather isn't bad enough to warrant all wheel drive. So, no, it doesn't matter to have AWD. But, FWD is a must. |

Upon more study of this question,
I've found that in the harshness of winter weather It is much easier to get around with AWD. And most vehicles today give option to have full time AWD or the ability to engage and dis-engage AWD Still gas mileage isn't quite as good with just conventional FWD. Decision: See what conditions you drive under and hope for the best |
