Why is there no topic here?
It's a travesty Here are a few trailers (in case you live under a rock and haven't come across any) Watchmen - First Trailer Watchmen - Second Trailer This movie will be... interesting to say the least I look forward to seeing or hearing the reactions of people when they see the final parts of the movie Probably along the lines of "WTF was that? I want my money back!" It's because, without spoiling too much, the movie won't end in your conventional Hollywood ending |

i think most people here don't even know who the watchmen are .....i mean it's been more than 20 years plus it was 12 limited series......unlike the X-men and other comic books which is still going on today ....so u would be hard press to find anyone under 20 who have read watchmen

The movie previews looks pretty cheesey to me. They got a wannabe Darkman, a wannabe Batman, and some dude trying to look like Silver Surfer lol. Hope it bombs!

I've yet to read the graphic novel, but I know of its critical acclaim and impact on comics in general. It definitely won't be like your traditional super hero movie. |

I heard some reviews on the radio and the movie reviewers said that if you aren't a fan of the comic then it might be a little hard to buy into the movie. For those who don't know anything about the movie, there is really only 1 guy that has super powers and its the blue naked one. Speaking of which, you see his d!ck through out the movie if anyone is wondering. Anyways, Watchmen is almost 3 hours long and I heard they changed the ending from the comics but everything almost stays true so fans shouldn't freak out as much.

Let me guess, Hollywood producers wanted to dumb down the ending so people won't be throwing their popcorn and claiming ripoff
Because the Graphic Novel ending is not your typical Hollywood movie ending Thank god for the Director's Cut, which I hope will release with the unedited ending |

They just changed how the millions of people died. No giant squid, but the outcome was the same. The character who died still died. |

I heard a rumor it was better than the Dark Knight. I dunno about that but I havent seen Watchmen yet. It looks like it could be on par with Iron Man....maybe. But it doesnt seem like it form this thread.

Loved how it was pretty damn faithful to the comics. Some minor changes here and there, but nothing any fan should really gripe about. I just love how it took the superhero stereotype and threw it in your face, giving these people characters flaws and weaknesses like any regular person has. Sure, its been done in other superhero movies and comics, but keep in mind this comic was the first to really break the formula. I also liked the alternative 1980s America it took place in, and its take on the Cold War situation. The fight scenes were pretty decent as well. My only complaints - Too much shlong and bare men asses. Oh, and Rorschach = pure badass. "I'm not locked up in here with you...YOU'RE LOCKED UP IN HERE WITH ME!!!!" |

The movie was written in the 80s and the script did remain very faithful to it so I can imagine how it would come off as cheesy
The comics of today read much less "geekier" and more street And everything involving heroes is bound to be fictional Only people who are too serious and intelligent for their own good are inept at suspending disbelief People like these tend to hate Star Wars too for all its "thousands of inaccuracies" |

Well I saw the movie today. I wouldn't say it was at the level of The Dark Knight. I liked the character development. Some parts were a little cheesy and other parts seemed to had just been thrown in there for pubescent teen boys to drool over. But they didn't disappoint for the pubescent teen girls either. Fun movie. Long though.

The only gripe I had was the goddamn cheesy 80s tunes
What on earth? Did they do that to make it campy intentionally or was that just a bad choice? I guess Snyder didn't want the movie to end up being too serious (well because to be honest, there really was no comic relief in the whole movie) so he had the campy music substitute? Other than that it was epic It is the most faithful adaptation to a comic book - nothing will top this unless a movie literally follows every single thing in a comic |

Other than that it was epic It is the most faithful adaptation to a comic book - nothing will top this unless a movie literally follows every single thing in a comic The source material itself had a campy feel to it in terms of design. Fruity costumes, vibrant colors, Kirby/Ditko-esque body types, etc. The movie was actually darker-looking than the comic, and some of the costumes were made more modern looking (Nite Owl's and Silk Spectre's come to mind). But I always thought that the campiness was just satire. You know, pointing out the ridiculousness of the old super hero comics, and sticking these characters in a much more adult storyline and give them actual character development as a way to say "fu-k you" to all the cheesiness of old-school comics. I thought it was really interesting to see these characters - designed to be old-school and cheesy as hell - have to deal with more serious situations as well as their personal flaws and demons. And I thought the tunes fit well with the movie, considering it takes place in 1985. @mike - Yeah, I'll agree with you when it comes to some of the changes being nothing more than to please hormonally charged teenagers (Silk Spectre's costume was never that skin-tight, lol), however the sex scenes do come straight out of the comic. This movie was definitely not made for the general masses. I think people would appreciate the film more if they'd read the comic, but in all likelihood people are going to be expecting your typical superhero movie. Not a bad movie.
However, not as good as Iron Man and Dark Knight. |
