as much as i respect the intentions of gk(which is now...erm..'divided), i am quite bothered by this expose. trying tohelp the indigenous block is a noble idea, but it's not noble anymore if you put total disregard on what they think of it and how the 'project' will affect their culture

it's a long post(with pictures) so i will just post the link here

i admire our heritage activists... most of whom are not as biased as other 'activists' out there(communists?)

I saw photos of those houses in your link. They do look unattractive and not to the taste of the nomadic Aeta. But then again, this is only a small problem that can be remedied by not repeating itself again. Gawad Kalinga has improved the lives of thousands of Filipino families that needed clean and decent housing, besides living in a dump or a rickety nipa hut. It's merits outweigh this small problem. Therefore it's still a noble effort. It's easy for one person to criticize a noble act when that same person is not being questioned about their contributions to the poor.

agree, 1 wrong move vs 100 good deeds, very easy to remedy.
Better than others doing nothing beneficial but all damaging to society.

don't you find it quite offensive to say nomadic aeta. how sure ayou that they are nomadic. i wonder if you have read the whole concern of the article. look at the pictures again, not only do they look unattractive, but far more substandard that the huts of the aetas. it's not a small problem. read through the whole article and it's not an isolated case.

not only is it unattractive to the aetas taste, but also to your ordinary filipino. look at the houses again.. very substandard looking.

you're not getting the point of the article....'criticizing noble acts'. but let me repost this quote of albert camus

“The evil that is in the world almost always comes of ignorance, and good intentions may do as much harm as malevolence if they lack understanding.â€

a good example of this is the very noble lina law. it's supposed to protect the squatters from ejection. but did it do good? no. the law merely encouraged professional squatting. therefore depriving the REAL squatters who need land and the landowners who pay land tax and at the end are being made business by the 'professional squatters'. they can't eject them as much as they want. they have to relocate them(at the expense of the land owner) before ejecting them. ikaw na nga yung nianakawan ng lupa, ikaw pa yung pagdadala ng pasakit na bigyan sila ng matitirhan. kalaunan, ibebenta rin lang nila yan, tapos magskusquat ulet.

these people are like our officials diba? indeed, we get the government we deserve. reflection lang ng society ang gobyerno. astig!

nice business, di ba?

if gk really wants to help the poor, why not just build schools where they can go to. at least if they're educated about the real world, they have more knowledge on things and fuse it with their culture. we should not force the indigenous communities to exactly follow the lifestyle of the non indigenous. the best way to help them is to make every possible services and education available to them and it is up to them to incorporate it with their culture. or if they're going to purely adopt the modern way.

GK has helped... giving decent houses.
it's not just the physical aspect of getting a house, it's getting a home.
after all, a person's character is molded in the kind of home (not house) that he belonged.
