I have noticed that I can easily pick out the Gyopo women from the native Korean Koreans. Not only their dress and fashion, but Gyopo women also look different. The Gyopo women have let themselves go, tend to be more chunky, less interested in fashion, don't take care of their skin, and they have less focus on keeping themselves more assertive and even masculine. Coming from western cultures, this is not a surprise. But it is a total opposite to what it means to be a woman in South Korea where feminity of women is still highly valued and desired. I think that is why many Gyopo guys prefers to date and marry native Korean girls rather then Gyopo women. The Gyopo men as well have similar outlook in life as their Gyopo sisters. They tend to have short buzz hair cuts, tend to be chunkier with more weight problems , tend to dress up like African American ghetto style, and tend to be macho in behavior. Where as the native Korean guys tend to have long colored hair, tend to go for the more feminine looking fashion, and they have a totally different outlook in life including mannerism. They still believe in being chivalrous toward women that they date, who lap it up. I think the latter type is the type that women tend to prefer and these guys know it, so they give them what they want, and in turn get what they look for.

i too can usually spot Kyopo girls on the subway and such, but disagree with you about how they look. Are they often heavier? Yup. But I usually don't mind that. They are simply more filled out than a lot of the locals. As to the skin and such, I notice Kyopo girls tend to tan more. I dig tans, so again, np for me. Clothes-wise.. I've grown to be very fond of skirts since moving to Korea (love the spring/summer here), but I'm more of a jeans and tshirt guy.

As for Kyopo guys... the vast majority I know are professionals (lawyers and such), so they don't really match your description. /shrug

I think the way they get dress in Korea makes difference. Unless you are strikingly beautiful or exceptionally ugly, simple change of fashion, make up, hairstyle can improve your look dramatically.

It seems like ordinary Americans really don't care what they wear any more. Most people only wear fancy dress/suite on a special day like wedding unless you are lawyers, CEO or someone working in the clothing industry. Korean American women might have been influenced by that environment.

If you compare white North Americans with white Europeans, you will also find a big difference. European women look more feminine and attractive....not necessarily because of their look, they dress better.

I think you meant that they have more of a focus on being assertive to the point of masculinity.

I know there is a noticeable difference in terms of weight and fashion sense for many native and Gyopo women. But it is not as stark as you describe. For me, the most striking difference is the facial expression/demeanor. That is how I tell the difference between native Korean and gyopo women. I know many gyopo women who do take care of their appearance and have great fashion sense, but you can still tell a difference before they open their mouth. It's the vibe they exude. Even the ones you would call girly and feminine.

Um, I think it has more to do with socialization, what is considered the ideal in Korean society. Anyways, you are making some very broad generalizations here about both Gyopo men and women. I don't really see too many Gyopo men dressing in the gangster style. There is a noticeable segment, but they are definitely not the majority. I have not seen many with buzz hair cuts, either. Most native Koreans have short hair, not long colored hair.

To be honest, I don't think the attention young Korean men give to their girlfriends is out of chivalry, but affection.

American society focus on plain Jane or slutty look. I think it has something to do with Americans being fat and lazy.

Not all I agree but the trends seem to be this way.

In the East or Europe which I never been to the trends are set by them. Americans attitude is to make fun that they focus way too much energy or looking gay.

I just think Americans are lazy compared to their counterparts. I'm lazy as fu-k compared the my East Asians in Asia. haha

You could have easily titled this thread, "Why do Korean American MEN Look Less Attractive?" embarassedlaugh.gif Anyways, I noticed that in America, most ethnic groups tend to look less attractive compared to their countries of origin. Latinos in America tend to look less attractive than the ones in Latin America. Black people in the U.S. look less attractive than Caribbean women. White people in the U.S. tend to look less attractive than continental Europeans. Of course, there are exceptions. I think Anglo Americans look generally better than English people. But it's all relative and we are speaking in generalities/trends. Beauty is a result of how well you take care of yourself and your personality. Plastic surgery can get rid of the ugly, but it does not really create beauty. Beauty comes from a wholeness of mind, body, and spirit. That's why countries with lots of people who have really vibrant, loving. beautiful spirits, where people really take care of their bodies, are abundant with beautiful people like Brazil, Lebanon, Korea, etc. You can have the "right" features, but if you are empty headed with an empty personality, the best you will look is someone like Paris Hilton. The truly beautiful people are those with great character/spirits as well. You're right, femininity has a large part to do with making a woman beautiful. But that cannot be bought or acquired through physical means. Korean women are very feminine and that is a big reason for their beauty in addition to being very loving and spirited. Spirit is what makes their beauty deep.

But I have never really found a lack of attractive Korean women as I grew up around many of them. beerchug.gif

Dear sirs,
You have succinctly pinpointed a very good observation.
I would like to contribute my own theory :

1. Nutrition.

- In many Western countries, the food portions are big.

- A lot of fast food, meat, and high calorie food.

- Also I have a theory,
In Western countries the food processing technology is more advanced and sophisticated than elsewhere.
They are at the forefront of food manipulation, such as,

hormones injection.
GM food (Genetically Modified)

and other techs such as food refinement and additives.
For instance,

HFCS
(High Fructose Corn Syrup)
which creates diseases such as stroke, diabetes, heart disease, and also......obesity.

So in conclusion, for multiple reasons the typical person living in a Western country, will be more likely to be obese or at least not slim.

2. Sun exposure and other environmental and atmospheric factors.

Not like in East Asian countries, some people living in tropical or sub-tropical climate tend to tan themselves either deliberately or non deliberately.
For instance you can see lots of darker-skinned and tanned Asians living in California and Hawaii.
But actually it happens for the European descends as well.
A caucasian California man is more tanned than a native Irish man living in Ireland Republic.

As we know Asians have more propensity to tan in response to sun exposure, thusly the tanned ones can look quite dramatic compared to before / the ones who dont.

I believe the social contexts further exacerbates the situation.
Tanning is considered "cool" by some, and also there is a substantial percentage of society who are darker skinned either because they are naturally dark from their races or they are of mixed-race stock.

* In conclusion Asians in NA would likely be affected in this manner :

1. Fatter
2. Darker

Now socially also there are differences in social norms so there are results in mannerisms and personal behaviour, such as:

1. more individualistic
2. talk more rudely
3. use more facial muscles and body gestures / body language

FACT America is wasteful big country. America also smoke a lot of weed. Munch time! Cinnnabun lol

Everyone drives a car and waste huge amounts of natural resources on a daily basis just to buy a slurpee @ 7-11

In the old world some drive but most take public transportation or walk. Americans rather fly or waste fuel. Work out? haha.. An hour of cardio is worthless with all the Americans shove in their faces.

BIG MAC, 1/4 with CHEEEEEEEEEEEEESE... HAHA

Americans are junkaholics! Of course I am part of the problem. Can we change please?

You sound like a typical ESL Asiaphile. Only western men would complain about how "masculine and assertive" western women are compared to "docile asian flowers". For some reason White men hate women who are independent and think that if they go to Asia they can find a weal Asian Flower. REAL Asian men can handle assertive, aggressive Asian women and do not complain about it.

As for Gyopo's looking different - I hate to break it to you, but Koreans do get a lot of plastic surgery. That's just reality, I'm not trying to offend anyone. Most Asian Americans do not get surgery because Asian plastic surgery is not common in America. And many Koreans are adopted so they can't ask their White parents for Eyelid surgery.

The only reason trolls think Koreans get a lot of plastic surgery is due to the fact that the celebrities that do get it are more open about it and that so many Koreans are naturally beautiful. Trolls aren't used to so many beautiful people, so they falsely assume that it is only possible through plastic surgery. Chinese and Japanese newspapers sensationalizing the idea that Koreans get a lot of surgery doesn't help either.

Survival plastic surgery: Competition for jobs and mates sends young Chinese to Seoul

Seoul, South Korea is enjoying a new flood of plastic surgery business. In contrast to plastic surgery in the United States, anti-aging is not a factor. Rather, young Chinese people travel to Seoul for plastic surgery to ensure their future success in love and in work.

If you think things are tough in the States since the recession, think again. According to the March 1, Christian Science Monitor, “Life competition is so stiff in Korea and China, people who want to survive come to Korea for plastic surgery.” In 2010, a consulting firm estimates that the number of Chinese clients leaped nearly fivefold from the year before.

In China, Fan Bingbing and Angelababy (who achieved her own look with plastic surgery) are the actresses who currently set the bar for beauty. They have big eyes, high-bridged noses and small faces. Su Hong, a vivacious student from Beijing, was visiting Seoul primarily to fix her square jaw line, which will cost her about $4,500. She says a more oval face will get her “a better job, a nicer boyfriend, and a reflection in the mirror that I will like more.” Her mother, who also hates her own jaw, will pay for Su Hong’s operation.

A medical industry consultant says it will take about five to 10 years for plastic surgery techniques in China to equal the aesthetic skills demonstrated in Korea. Further, the accidental death of a young Chinese singer under a Chinese plastic surgeon’s knife in November 2010 has worked to decrease faith in Chinese plastic surgeons.

QUOTE
The shortcomings of China’s medical system are hardly limited to cosmetic and plastic surgery. But the industry now generates an estimated $2.3 billion in revenue, and the government has begun to take note. Officials say new regulations will probably be issued this year.

One implicit goal is to halt the flow of Chinese patients to better-established hospitals in South Korea. Mr. Ma estimates that Chinese make up 30 percent of cosmetic surgery patients in Seoul.

Leave it to a nationalist troll to bring up plastic surgery in a thread having to do with Korean women. Seriously, it just shows how insecure they are about their own looks. I never realized that Koreans were THAT attractive, but all this trolling just shows how threatened some people can be.

Korean women can be feminine and assertive at the same time. I guess some people have a hard time with that as they've only been exposed to butchy and b!tchy women. It's not just in the way you look, but how you carry yourself, which affects how you look as well.

So Korea has 40+ million people? China has 1.3+ Billion people. You're seriously going to use an article saying "a lot" of Chinese people are going to Korea for plastic surgery? On Average Koreans do have way more plastic surgery than other Asian nations.

The only reason they are going to Korea is because Korean plastic surgeons are so skilled. Why are they so skilled? Could it be because so many Koreans have done it?

According to International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Korea has the highest amount of plastic surgery per capita of any Asian nation:
http://www.asianplasticsurgeryguide.com/ne...ea-highest.html

QUOTE
PP10K = procedures per 10,000 people of all ages per year

• To compare rates between any two countries, simply divide their PP10K values.

For example, people in South Korea undergo invasive plastic surgery at a rate 1.7 times higher than people in Taiwan, 1.8 times higher than people in the United States, 2.3 times higher than people in Japan, and 8.2 times higher than people in China.

So, yes, South Koreans do indulge in more plastic surgery than people in other countries.

But, what about all those sensational stories stating that every other woman in South Korea has undergone serious cosmetic work?

The statistics here don't begin to substantiate such claims.

"More" doesn't equate with "all," even though the numerical values would certainly be much higher than 74 in 10,000 if one considered only young adults in the center of Seoul (as would also be the case for Los Angeles, Rio, Shanghai, and other cosmetic surgery "hotspots").

Note that while South Korea takes the prize for having the world's highest PP10K, it is easily surpassed by several much larger countries in total number of plastic surgery operations performed in 2009.

Hey, don't freak out. I'm not saying that ALL Koreans do it, or that most do it. There are a lot of naturally attractive Korean people. And Asians in general don't need as much plastic surgery as Whites so I'm not saying that anyone's inferior. These are just facts - there are far more important things to argue about.

Stop being biased, does all 1.3billion Chinese can afford to have plastic surgery?
S.Korean surgeons are also well known for human organ transfer, heart surgery, and cancer treatment etc..
S.Korean hospitals are equal to top American hospitals but far cheaper than Japan & U.S, that's why rich Chinese are going to Korean surgeons.
Don't paint this as if only Koreans do plastic surgery, 30% of Korean stats are added by foreigners.

The report says, 74 out of 10,000, that's not much if we take dental braces to double eyelid surgery which most Koreans go for.

Uh, no. I only brought it up AFTER he did. If you don't want a response, don't troll. PERIOD. Don't even. You are always looking for an excuse to justify your trolling. I don't troll, but I do RESPOND to trolls. Take some responsibility for your own behavior. You tell Koreans to that they need to take a chill pill in response to trolling. Stop acting like a little pest. All you do is leech off this forum.
