Drug store thief comes after pills, gets beans

(04-14) 06:17 PDT Pascagoula, Miss. (AP) --

A pharmacist in southeastern Mississippi says some drug store burglar got a surprise when they broke into his business to steal the pain medication Lortab — the pills had been replaced with beans.

Pharmacist Mac Clark works at Fred's Drug Store in Pascagoula and told WLOX TV the store has broken into several times in the past six months, and each time the burglars got Lortab. He decided he needed a decoy.

He put kidney beans in a large Lortab bottle. Around 6 a.m. Wednesday, the burglars came back. The only thing stolen was the Lortab bottle filled with beans.

Investigators believe the burglar cut him or herself during the break-in because they found a trail of blood leading away from the building.

(04-15) 12:14 PDT PHOENIX, CA (AP) --

A 33-year-old man who bit back after he was caught by a Phoenix police dog is suing police.

Erin Sullivan alleges the dog violated his civil rights and used excessive force to capture him after he ran from officers in Glendale during a burglary investigation last year.

Police say Sullivan bit the dog back, injuring it.

The lawsuit names the cities of Phoenix and Glendale and four officers.

Precursor filings to the lawsuit sought $200,000 from Glendale and $250,000 from Phoenix.

Officials in Glendale and Phoenix have declined comment.

Sullivan also alleges Glendale police refused to give him insulin to treat his diabetes. Sullivan's attorney, Keith Knowlton, has said his client suffered a diabetic seizure in a Glendale cell.

Sullivan is serving eight years for convictions in the Glendale burglary.

(04-12) 04:59 PDT York, Pa. (AP) --

Police say two people swiped tools from a central Pennsylvania home then unwittingly tried to sell them back to their owner at his place of employment.

West York Police say the victim was approached by two people at a service center March 24 trying to sell him some tools. The victim thought the toolbox looked familiar and went home to find he'd been robbed.

Police tell The York Dispatch they soon arrested 34-year-old Cody Lee Littrell, of Hanover, and 32-year-old Rebecca Erinn Dice, of Dillsburg. Both face charges including theft and receiving stolen property.

Littrell is free on bail. A phone number for him could not immediately be located Tuesday. Dice remains behind bars.

'Moss Man' Accused in Bizarre Museum Break-In Attempt
No, it's not Bigfoot.
http://weirdnews.about.com/od/dumbcriminal...-Of-Shame_5.htm

In what has to be one of the strangest images here in the Weird Crime Mug Shot Hall of Shame, an Oregon man was arrested in what can only be described as a mossy costume. Police say he donned the disguise in an effort to break into the Rice Northwest Museum of Rocks and Minerals in Oregon.

But as my colleague Ben Muessig reports at AOL News, the ridiculous outfit wasn't the only problem with the plan -- he was also caught drilling into a bathroom that wasn't connected to the museum's prized quarter-million-dollar gold collection.

Gregory Liascos, 36, has been charged with burglary, criminal mischief and wearing a costume before Halloween.

Darwin City Council traffic wardens book dog for parking
A DOG has been booked for illegal parking.

The blue heeler was tied to a fence outside Rapid Creek Market when it was approached by two Darwin City Council traffic wardens.

One of the inspectors wrote out a ticket – and taped it to the dog's lead.

Witness Ray McEvoy said he couldn't believe his eyes.

"I watched an elderly lady and her very faithful blue heeler roll up at the market," he said.

"The lady tied the dog to the fence and gave him a bowl full of water.

"And off she went into the markets.

"Then two traffic inspectors came along. They had a bit of a talk and, to my amazement, wrote out a warning infringement notice for the dog and taped it to his lead rope."

Mr McEvoy said the dog was tied to a fence well away from the foodstalls.

"It was on a path rarely used," he said. "And the owner made sure the dog was in the shade.

"It wasn't in distress at all. In fact, it was the most placid blue heeler I've seen in my life."

Mr McEvoy, who runs a commercial cleaning business, said the booking caused quite a stir.

The dog owner was last seen marching off in pursuit of the parking inspectors.

Council spokesman Grant Fenton said a dog was considered to be "at large" if the owner was not there.

"You can't tie up a dog and leave it," he said.

NY inmate separates guards fighting over food

Fri Apr 29, 2011
BUFFALO, N.Y. – Talk about a role-reversal: Two New York jail guards are in trouble after an inmate stepped in to break up their fight over food.

Erie County Undersheriff Mark Wipperman says both corrections officers are suspended with pay after what he calls an "embarrassment."

The inmate required medical attention but Wipperman says privacy laws prevent him from disclosing his injuries. He says the inmate got between the unarmed guards because he didn't want either to get fired.

He wouldn't confirm a Buffalo News report that the April 21 bout started over a bag of chips. It happened at Erie County Correctional Facility in a dorm-like building.

Wipperman identified the officers as Lawrence Mule, a 26-year veteran, and James Conlin, who was hired 29 years ago. A message with the officers' union wasn't immediately returned.
