At this time I believe the pendulum has swung in favor of the striker. reason, No new technique, except the rubber guard, has been developed. Strikers have learned to 'stay away from submissions' and also how to stand back up. But grapplers haven't found new counters to get the submission on a wise opponent nor have they found a way to keep the opponent downed. Even if the pendulum swings back to the grapplers favor, they always have the burden to come up with new moves since the striker strikes. The striker never comes up with new moves, he strikes. All he has to do is figure out a counter for whatever the grapplers invent and strike thru when they are clear. |

We need more leg lock specialists the majority of grapplers in the US and in MMA in general are of BJJ stock they have a deadly guard game yes, they have sweeps yes, they have good passes yes. But historically speaking most BJJ guys lack a strong top game and very rarely search for the leg lock to finish. I believe with the new Judo talent coming into MMA like Satoshi Ishii we will see a revitalization in the grappling game. For one thing we have never seen a young world class judoka in MMA people like Kim Dong Hyun and Karo Parysian are only of National caliber and they still catch people off guard. In my opinion the days of the reign of Single and Double leg takes downs will soon come to an end in a favor of more judo throws and sweeps being utilized, the reasoning behind this is simple judo throws hurt more and will give you a superior position on the ground with instant submission attempts being possible, not to mention once the throw is complete you will most likely be in side control or even mount your opponent. thats my two cents on what needs to be done, btw rubber guard is not used much in MMA as compared to bread and butter jiu jitsu. |

yeah cung le isnt getting taken down either. neither is rampage , rashad, machida..... then again they havent fought gsp LOL. True, and GSP is basically a ground-and-pounder(GAP). But when I said grappler I was thinking BJJ since GAP is striking with a dominant position. If they place more limitations on counters against a single or double leg take down then we won't see too many judo throws or hip throws. BUT, if we allow kicks and knees to kneeling or hands down opponents. strikes to the back of the neck, back of the head and spin, then it would become really dangerous to drop down for a leg, then upper body take downs will become popular. The problem with leg locks is there is a moment when both hands are used for the lock and the head is unprotected. A powerful strike then will usually knock out the grappler. But then again, I have seen some beautiful leg locks! |

Wait until Akiyama or Ishii fight in the UFC you will see what im talking about. Actually, what I like to see, is a BJJ expert with some devastating ground and pound! OR a BJJka that has a real standup game. The best leglock I've seen was in Pride FC were a lucky Ryo Chounan leg scissors Anderson Sliva rolling into a heel hook. |

Not a single thought on why is he doing this? This is dangerous to do against a striker that's aware of the Rick Roll. On that timing, step in right cross game over. |

He just has great ground work to neutralize a great grappler's prowess. But even then, I think Anderson Silva is a bit overrated. This post has been edited by kfighter: Jun 26 2009, 03:40 AM |

Big Anderson Silva fan right here.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Was not impressed with his last preformance. (GSP frenchmen voice) But still has the fighting style that I train to have. And I think his take down defense has definitely evolved. btw, Demian Maia is a bad @$$.

My to favorite fighters are Nick Diaz and Duane Ludwig. neither will end with a belt around his waist but they have charisma just the same.
The way Nick beatup Frank Shamrock, can't buy that with money. Duane Ludwig, probably the best striker in the game. He just needs to get up and Bang. |

If Diazs punches would have just a little bit more power hed have enough to take on all the premium welterweights. |
