Yes I feel offended because it is directed at Lao people in general. And how the name came about was intentional by the Thai in general to refered at Lao people negatively.

Why?! If I were you I wouldn't feel anything. Like you once said you also use the word Thai for degrading Thai people. But we just don't care $hit! embarassedlaugh.gif

I don't get your point. We feel we lost Laos (region) cuz Laos was a part of our Siam/Thailand nation. so what's next?

Thai feels inferior towards Lao because they lost touch and sense of Laos people and a country they used to occupy in the past. Am I right? icon_smile.gif

That's just apart of many reason I have. I personally met a Thai and they weren't so nice towards Lao people, even tho that Thai thought I was one of them in the crowd.

But how can that be??? I don't feel that way or others. embarassedlaugh.gif We feel that it is our duty to be independence and to unify our people once again. Laos has open its doors and now we shall bring our education and knowlege back to our motherland. And also, bring back our nationalism and pride into our country. In the next 20 years Laos will soon forget about Thailand and its dependance. The future is IndoChina and China economic boom to favored towards not Thai any more. When we talk about Thai. We met for the population of those in Bangkok. Since most problem that Thai has against Lao are from Bangkok itself. Issan is excluded from our thought and Lanna aswell. beerchug.gif

lol my friend, that is only a pipe dream. Laos nationalism and pride did not really exist untill the French came and provoked it. We used to be one people before that biggrin.gif would be beneficial to Laos if we become one nation once again icon_smile.gif if there were ever a boycot of Thai products in Laos, Laos economy will collapse o.O bad for the folks that still struggle to live there. Its not like the government will be handing out benefits or welfare.

The english make fun of the Irish for being backwards. The Irish don't really much like the english. Northern Ireland are Irish people loyal to England.

Thai make fun of Laos people for being backwards. Laos don't really much like thai people (well the ones on AF anyway). Issan is Laos people loyal to Thailand.

same $hit, different setting.

Its not the same $hit. Its a different situation and how it become what is is in that environment. Don't try to make it seem so easy. And why would you think Laos would collapese when it has other to seek?

You are seeing Laos now. But what about Laos in the next 20 years? I don't think the Lao people going to just relied on Thai product for our daily lives. Laos will have other country to contribute with beside Thai product. And even that! Laos may soon produce thier own product instead of relying on Thailand for most of its needs in the future.

I think all the problem of Thai and Lao issues are from inferiority complex of some Lao members here. Just look at few topics like Thai/Tai and Isaan.

Thai/Tai word is more famous than Lao. Everybody in this world know what Thai/Tai is but they don't have any clue what is Lao. So these Lao members do a shortcut by claiming the word TAI as their own. Even Lao themselves never called TAI. Only Central Thai people name themselves TAI. They feels inferior to Thai/Tai becuz Lao's existence must be referred to Thai/Tai, just look at their Thai Lao restaurants, Muay Thai Lao, or even identify themsleves in America as Thai not Lao. icon_smile.gif

I have no doubt about this part. It's the only way to explain their thinking when they tried to say that "Thai" is not "Tai". I can't think of any other better way to explain it.

Lao people never associated themselve with the word "Tai", they've been calling siamese "Tai/Thai" and calling themselve "Lao"

But now it's 21st century, the word Thai/Tai become something in this world and suddenly we started to hear these Yankee trying to be "Tai"

I can't explain it better than this.

But I welcome any other theory. icon_smile.gif

Isaan, the northestern Thailand region, people in this region comprise of hybrid people of Thai, Chinese, Vietnamee, Khmer, Lao, Khmu, Kui, Mon, etc. Isaan to these Lao members are nothing but a toy to increase their current low ego. Like I mentioned, these Lao members have inferiority complex, to have Isaan people under their control is just make them feel bigger. LOL I bet you, if Isaan really was part of Laos right now. They wouldn't be anything but another groups of Lao bannork hillbilly to these Lao members. (You may not know that Lao from the north consider themselves as PURE Lao, and they think Lao in the South Laos and in Isaan are mixed blood, dark-skined, and speak fake and redneck Lao accent.) Do these Lao members really care Isaan like they always say in Thai and Lao chat? I guess not! All of these Thai-Lao problems are from their inferiority complex and the miserable life experience of their ancestors. That's it!

But for this part, I am really lost.

For many decades, I heard Lao people trying to claim that Isaan people are Lao.

But just recently, I started to hear Yankee Lao in AF denying that Isaan people has nothing to do with their pure Lao blood.

I just can't explain such reaction of these yankees.
Your theory above is one explanation but I think there must be some other reason.

Is it possible that some of them found Isaan accent which is true Lao accent not as what they want Lao to be?

In their imagination, Lao should speak like Lanna. They admire Lanna for their beautiful culture.

So, they start to keep themselve a distant from Isaan people and bind themselve to Lanna people who is far away.

Is this related? I don't know. I need to observe Savan and friends more than this before I can come to the conclusion.

Meanwhile, you may try to purpose other theory to explain it.

This issue is very interesting and need to be investigated. icon_smile.gif

Pretty much sum up of thai inferior complex. I agree. beerchug.gif

Thai inferiority complex is the tendency of a person to depreciate the worth of themselves in comparison with other people. It is to be unduly sensitive to criticism and thus to adopt a negative attitude towards others.

They are still chasing the Tai word. They write it as Tai Vientiane. That's really ridiculous, it should be tai Vientiane, tai with lower case t cuz to the Lao, tai is not a specific name but a common word mean people. Tai Vientiene is not name of ethnic but just mean "people of Vientiane" or Khon Vientiane. They are trying so hard to link themselves with the word TAI. embarassedlaugh.gif

And thanks for remind me that, the Lao also call us as TAI. Their Lao ancestor call Thai/Siamese as Tai since ancient time. beerchug.gif

North Lao is similar to Lanna becuz they adopted Lanna culture. These Lao just don't know it. The whole Lanna culture including some of Lanna people and the Emeral Buddha were brought to Lao Lanxang by Lao king Chaisettha. Since then Lao practiced Lanna culuture like Lanna food, Lanna's Buddhism, Lanna alphabets became Lao's Tua Lao script. So today, some of them are similar but they are not same people in the beginning. You can see in the language, Lanna language is very closed to the Tais of Shan, and Lue, not Lao. Lao is more close to Thai (LOL). Lao is just Lannanized people. I think they know that Thai people admire Lanna and Lanna culture. So some of Laotards love to claim Lanna and disown Lao southerners and not interested in the Issan people.

It maybe back to my theory that Lao people are not same people in the beginning cuz LAO is created by the French. The real Lao is just a group of mixed T'ai and Lawa in Luang Prabang. The French made this group to be the core of LAO so they can make all ethnics like Khmu, Puan, T'ais to be one LAO. So it's easy for them to disown others cuz they don't feel they are same people. You can see they are easily fight each others like Lao killed Lao in the past. In the meantime they also love to claim others as LAO, just to make them feel bigger, to reduce their inferiority complex. icon_smile.gif

I m thai and Lao by birth and grew up with Lao people. I notice that Lao people don't have an inferiority complex as bad as Thai people do. Yes I was born in the US and visited both country and from my observation the jek Thai not the normal Thai are very insecure about their appearance they try to at like if they were British or something but sadly to say the UK is Thailand s pimp and Thai try so hard to change their images by mixing their chineseyness with European blood or African blood. Even in the US you can see a Thai from a mile away just by seeing how they react to white people all scared and scrawny afraid to stand up against the white man. When Laos and every Sea Asian country was at war Thailand was quietly hiding behind england for protection and what does England do? Take the Thais to England and pimp them out
