QUOTE Libs set to select Greenway candidate July 15, 2010 - 12:54PM The Liberal party will this weekend select its candidate for the western Sydney federal electorate of Greenway from two aspiring politicians of Filipino descent. Greenway is currently held by Liberal MP Louise Markus, but a redistribution means it's now notionally Labor with a margin of 5.7 per cent, with Ms Markus to contest the nearby seat of Macquarie. The candidates battling it out for Liberal preselection for Greenway on Saturday are Venus Priest, 40, and Jayme Diaz, 34. Mr Diaz, a lawyer, is the son of the Blacktown councillor Jess Diaz, and Ms Priest is a trained nurse who runs a small local business. The Labor candidate for Greenway is Susan Templeton. The seat, which covers the Blacktown and Parramatta council areas, is one of a number of western Sydney electorates shaping up as key battlegrounds in the federal election. If the Liberals can hold Greenway it will mean Federal Parliament would welcome its first politician of Filipino descent. http://news.smh.com.au/breaking-news-natio...0715-10bzp.html |
