Going in sick and getting other people sick (even if you don't mean to) is not cool. I had a appointment come into my office..shake my hand and about half way into the appointment I realized he was sick. I felt horrible the next day and decided not infect anyone else.
But it's tough when you don't get paid sick days off. We have sick days, personal days and even a personal holiday (supposed to use it for our bday, but we use it whenever) and 3 weeks vacation. So I hope whoever's sick feels better. Bravo to those of you that are so dedicated you go in even when your sick though..I did it once...they looked at me and sent me home! lol |

No, but I'd rather go in sick and just stay in my office all day. At my workplace, I get paid by the hr but they make you stay the whole 40 or whatever hrs. Say, you don't come in one day, then you have to make those hrs up somehow, by coming in early and/or going home late. Yeah... but on the plus side, you can never be late so I come in when I want and make up my own schedule around those hrs.

I called in sick for one day last week. Technically I wasn't sick but my mental health was at an all time low. I had to have a day off. It's the first time I've ever done something like that and I don't intend to make a habit of it.
Getting off that train to work felt surreal. Rather than be obligated into going somewhere I didn't want to be, I listened to myself and ended up making one of the best decisions I've ever made. Sometimes a guy deserves to take a day off. |

Yeh sometimes you just need to give yourself a break. Even if you're not physically sick. Mental health is important too. |

I don't call in when i'm sick, as part of my job is that I monitor our organisations sickness and I hate it when I see people that are constantly off due to sickness!!!
My organisation pays you even when you call in sick, which in my perspective isn't good!! We also have a tolerence level of 3 absences in 1 year, then it's down the disciplinary route!!! The amount of crap I hear in sickness disciplinaries is soo funny, staff assume we believe everything they say!! |

Nope, I laugh as soon as I hang up, call my mates over, then open a few cans of beers and celebrate

Rather than be obligated into going somewhere I didn't want to be, I listened to myself and ended up making one of the best decisions I've ever made. Sometimes a guy deserves to take a day off. Technically, mental health is a facet of your well being. Illness is illness, mind or body. I have no problem about calling in sick. I get 4hrs every 2 wks. Paid time. I only get paid for it if I use it. I've seen people retire with hundreds of hours-their mentality: I feel bad to stay home sick. Reality: they lost those hours and lost money. If they are going to give me the hours and pay me for them, why should I insult the system? If I have a headache, I debate taking sick leave. I do not go into work sick with the flu-people come to hospitals to be treated for illness not to pick up more illness. My mentality: take care of self. If you die tomorrow, you will be replaced within a couple of weeks. The ripples in the water subside and no water is lost. guilt is a form of stress, and stress is an illness. so if you feel guilty, you're ill.
