I heard it on streaming radio, someone sent me the link, I'd look it up and post. It is harder, has some rock, which is great, except it doesn't sound....hmm...coherent? I think my favourite genre of his was when he was doing the Jet Li/FuoYuanJia and General's March (Jiang Jun Ling) mix.

i don't like exclamation at all, sound too CGI generated voice.

well this one is better but still a bit of artificial voice. i like the melody though. lyric is same as always (about love breakup). the new is the dancing from jay. i prefer he doesn't do all this kiddy stuff. i prefer his old self.. him and his piano and just sing!

btw, nice pix there miss gwerty. embarassedlaugh.gif

Thank you! This was taken last Saturday, I usually look like a dork in photos, but it was early morning and somehow I was actually relaxed enough to get a half decent shot. embarassedlaugh.gif

Yes, feel a bit alienated by "Exclamation!"...he is trying to push some boundaries, but it's not working. I prefer his Chinese rap better.

For more quiet music, there's 蘇打綠 Sodagreen. Enjoy :

oh, how can I forget to include this new song? It is...beyond description, if there's one song from Sodagreen you've got to hear, it's this one:

What are you depressed about?

http://www.yinyuetai.com/video/296746

There are no flowers that do not wither
no waves that do not recede
no light that does not dim
Are you upset about something?

No scars that do not fade
no injuries that do not heal
no despair that do not end
What are you worried about?

Time will never answer
Life does not make itself heard
even if I have only a moment I am not afraid
that moment could be transformed into an eternity

I'd like to share several versions of 大海 "Sea" one of the best Chinese pop song ever written by the late 張雨生. It is a heart-wrenching song about losing one's love, the great pain of that loss and the memory of the lover. These are great talent!

The late 張雨生's version is the original, plaintive and poetic :

from that distant seaside, as you slowly vanish

the fading face, strangely gradually becomes clearer

want to say something, but know not where to start

so it is kept deep in the heart

walking aimlessly by the sea, watching the tide ride in and out

futilely, trying to remember every little wave

want to say I love you, but it's dispersed in the wind

Lost, I look back, where are you/you are there

reff 2

If the great ocean could, recall the love we once had

then let me, with my whole life, wait

if the past deep feelings, you no longer treasure

then let it float away with the wind

if the great ocean could, take away my sorrow

just like it takes away each riverflow

all the pain suffered, all the tears that have flowed

and my love...

please take it all away

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pv28GJxlAzI...feature=related

This is 陈伟联's version, melancholic, gentle and pure, it has some real people at the end of the MV shouting the names of their loved ones out, a nice touch:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-DW7bZX8Jg...feature=related

楊培安's voice is phenomenal, it is one of the most beautiful voice I have ever heard, and he added a rocking riff to this song, it's really surges like the waves :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdYCZqpWQqw...feature=related

Finally, Japan's godfather of Rock, J-Walk, paid an AMAZING tribute to this song, he not only added an incredible rock track, this song poured the feelings out in such a powerful way, it really makes you feel like crying along. He added beautiful Japanese lyrics in the beginning before belting out the original lyrics in Chinese, the transcript for the Japanese lyrics is in the second video. This is my favourite version, cathartic, poetic but ROCKS :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7f7YTPUy3Y...feature=related

Better version, better sound, with transcripts, but without the MV:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKXNGmlYgBw...feature=related

If I could just stroll along this great ocean, no matter how far
perhaps simply to walk, not too close to me
even though it's an illusion
I still feel as if I can see you

If you are somewhere on this great sea
alone waiting for me
for the me, who can only stand here,
you don't have to forgive someone like me

Like the shell tossing ceaselessly with the waves
will you go on like this till you turn into a grain of sand, with no regard for your fate
To live like this, is this really good?
You cry as you ask me, the me who cannot offer you the answer
only standing here like this

Can this ocean see
that this isn't a lie
the first time I feel this
even I have such feelings

Holding your hands, not letting go
hoping to walk this way together, holding you in my embrace
whenIi made that promise that day, I will not forget that the one who keeps it
is the one who is more readily hurt, hope someone will tell me
but no matter how I ask the sea will not answer
I can only stand here till the end

My Chinese vocab is limited but I can always use a dictionary. embarassedlaugh.gif Thanks for that video site but I'm interested in comprehensive music charts so I can get an idea of what songs are popular in China. I'd like to listen to whatever is mainstream and popular in China for now.

Do you know some must-listen classics such as this one? This song never gets old.

李仁港 this little b!tch is gonna butcher one of my favorite stories again.I can foresee how lame this movie will be.But lets pray that during the last few years he grew out of his lameness and has become a somewhat Okay director.
I still like 刘亦菲 though.

Oh that site has Music Charts for PRC, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Europe-US, Korea and Japan too, in that order:

Go to VChart or V榜:

Are you involved in the Music Business in any way?

Teresa Teng is the Goddess of Chinese Pop, unfortunately, she has passed away. My favourite song of hers is 但願人長久

It is based on a poem by Su Dong Bo, a Sung Dynasty poet, a sad song about the Moon, parting and missing one's loved ones :

This is a true classic, and I really like this version by Faye Wong:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIdDASnirbY...feature=related

Another really old but beautiful song is 何日君再来, I like it when she sings without music, you can hear clearly the intense sweetness in her voice, fast forward to 0.37 to skip the intro in Japanese:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRyXd-tiDFs

Enjoy beerchug.gif

^ Thanks, I see the chart now! No, I'm not professionally involved in any music or entertainment industry unless you count the fact that I'm a pro-SONE. embarassedlaugh.gif embarassedlaugh.gif

Thanks for the beautiful songs. I looked up the translated lyrics. I know 王菲 is a big name in C-pop but I haven't really checked her discography extensively. She's released so many songs so far. What are your favorites of hers besides

You're most welcomed! icon_wink.gif I'm glad you liked them, as they're really old and classic.

Btw, what is pro-SONE?

I've translated 但願人長久, it is worth the effort. I should translate the other songs I posted too, for the non-Chinese AF members, they are quite meaningful. Will add them to the posts.

When did the moon first appear? I raise my wine and ask the sky. Which year is it, high above in the heavenly palaces?
I long to ride home with the wind, but I fear the opulent towers and jade terraces are too high and chilly to reside.
I dance with my lone shadow, it is as if not on earth.
The moon moves round the cinnabar court, shining through the low carved windows on the sleepless.
The moon should not dislike man,but why is there always a full moon when loved ones are separated?
Among men there is happiness and sadness, union and parting.
The moon has phases, clouded and clear, round and fragment.
Perfection is not possible, it has been thus for the ages.
Hope we have many years more, through thousands of miles, we are reunited in the same moon.

When will you return? Modified from the lyrics on the net

Beautiful flowers do not always bloom.
Beautiful scene is not always present.
Sorrow burdens smiling brows
Tears fall on..?
After parting tonight,
When will you return?
After you have finished this cup of wine,
do have a little dish.
In life seldom it is to indulge in inebriation,
So why wait for such enjoyment?
[Speaking] Come, let's finish this cup, talk can wait.
After parting tonight,
When will you return?

Stop singing on this farewell journey,
Raise again the white jade cup,
Speak softly and tenderly,
Hold onto you tightly.
After parting tonight,
When will you return?
After you have finished this cup of wine,
do have a little dish.
In life seldom it is to indulge in inebriation,
Why wait for such enjoyment?
[Speaking] Ah, have another cup, kan bei,
After parting tonight,
When will you return?

Faye Wong is one of the few female artists who has some true talent, "實力", not just a pretty face. Usually, C-Pop is split into 實力派 and 偶像派 (idols), and I prefer the former. Does K-Pop categorize in a similar way?

Another favourite Faye Wong is this:

Yes, it's quite an obsession, a heartbreak song and a true classic by the late 張雨生. This is why so many other singers have reinterpreted this song in their own way, as a tribute to him, and I like J-Walk's version best, it was as if he was singing it to a genuine lost love. I edited and posted English lyrics to this too. music-smiley-004.gif

Poetic songs sound way better after you know the lyrics. 但願人長久 has really grown on me. I also got hooked on 我願意 and 給自己的情書. qwerty2010, I think you can add a directory to your OP like the one in my signature so we can keep listening to the songs with lyrics you've posted even after the thread has grown bigger.

Btw, what is pro-SONE?
SONE is someone who appreciates the meaning of Soshibond. In other words, 少女時代 fan. embarassedlaugh.gif

Faye Wong is one of the few female artists who has some true talent, "實力", not just a pretty face. Usually, C-Pop is split into 實力派 and 偶像派 (idols), and I prefer the former. Does K-Pop categorize in a similar way?
The distinction between artists and idols in K-pop has gotten weaker lately as "talented idols" have gained popularity. My relevant posts are here and here. K-indie as opposed to K-pop is a broad term that lumps independent non-dance pop artists who determine the orientation of their own music. Who would you pick for the most popular C-pop idol/group today?

I would say they are more popular currently than miss Liu in mainland China, although Miss Liu is very much well known.
My personal favorite is Alan, an ethnic Tibetan singer.
