I noticed that a lot of members actually stick to their native culture threads and don't wander off to say, off-topic. I think it'd be a good way to shoot the $hit with AF members who only visit culture sections.

Look at Indonesian Chat.

I bet 80-90% of the posts made in that Chat are off topic

^^ you beat me to it, but yeah, it's true.

an offtopic section would cut down on many regular members going offtopic on what's supposed to be legitimate topics.

maybe a just a coincidence, but it seems that those cultural sections with a very high average number of replies/number of topics ratio are the ones most likely to have offtopic posts.

Indonesian Chat offers a lot interesting threads. It's just that it seems to me that most of the posts weren't written in fluent English but bahasa Indonesian which is slightly(or more than slightly)different than Melayu thus I have trouble understanding them well. And members like GrandmasterC,furansizuka etc etc (and they are among those few that have the highest post count yet they are only posting in culture section) went off topic here and there.

Same could be said about malaysian chat. There are tons of members who start threads/ reply to threads in their native tongue and member's who aren't familiar with that language have problems understanding them.

Grandmaster C is around since February 2005 and has 2,111, that's what you call a high post count ?

Furansizuka is a member since September 2004 and has 10,453 posts. I have seen members who aren't even a member for a year and have as much posts as furansizuka.

What about members who DO visit the off topic section, but still go off topic in every other forum other than the off topic forum ? Members like Takashi, charlee, felltohell(+ her old account), tujue, P.Bredahl, Sonny angel, theng(+ her old accounts), canister, iMumble, who have a very high post count, mostly from going off topic in regular sections.

Why don't we convert all sections on AF into off topic sections ? biggthumpup.gif

Plus my reply wasn't off topic.

Yeah I know, I can see my posts. Creating an off-topic thread in the culture section provides a forum for culture section members to chat. The one thing I noticed in Chinese chat is that no one there chats with each other. It's all arguing, and having a thread like that will allow culture members to know each other better. It helps if they don't want to talk to anyone else who doesn't share their culture interests.

yeah, actually this could be a very good idea, so instead of arguing and flaming each other, they could chill and get to know each other, instead.

If that so-called "cultural off-topic" section has those pics that I want, I may go there. Otherwise, I see little point.

The non-cultural sections, such as "AF Lounge", already serve such a purpose. The very term "cultural off-topic" is itself hypocritical, as cultural topics aren't very "off".

Then again, if there is a cultural off-topic section where any controversial issues are banned in entirety, perhaps that would be a good idea. Still, controversies will nonetheless exist as to which issues are to be considered "controversial", to the extent that some lame @$$ troll would whine and b!tch about some historical drama and etc.

I don't think it would really help to decrease off topic posts. There is already an off topic sub-forum in the AF lounge section, yet members, who don't just stick to the culture forums, go off topic in the entertainment sections all the time.

I don't know how it should work for the culture forums, If it doesn't work for the entertainment forums.

Just start threads where chinese members could get to know each other better then, for instance a thread called "Chinese members, let's get to know each other better". laugh.gif << That was just a poor example btw.

Or just start threads like han2's threads in indo chat.

indochat, guess something about the person below you!

Indochatters what song/music are you listening to now?

Indochat, which other sites do you frequently visit?

Indochat, post of any silly/weird/odd/funny stories...

I'm not 100% sure If it's allowed to start such threads in the culture section though, since han2 warned other people for starting similar threads. Guess we need Ben's input about this here.

From what I have noticed,it's not rife in Malaysian Chat compared to how it is in Indonesian Chat. There are a few newbies that posted in their native tongue and some of us did communicate in Malay in certain threads like "Mamak".Malaysian Chat members also hardly interacted with each other in a more personal way.All they talked about was what I considered to be serious issues and it wasn't that active compared to other chats.
I always thought GrandmasterC had veryyyyy high post count along with another dude named...ana-what hmmm I couldn't remember his SN besides Furansizuka. icon_confused.gif I guess next time I should just do some searching first.
Hmm I don't go off-topic much. embarassedlaugh.gif

EDIT:Which members who aren't here for one year yet have made as much posts as Furansizuka are u talking about?I just took a look at the Overall Top 20 Losers list and there isn't anyone like that. Those have higher post count than him are old timers.

And how many OLD indo members post in their native tongue regularly ? You can see some members make post in their native tongue here and then, but it's mostly the n00bs with 100 something posts who start threads in bahasa indonesia.

You mean Aranadhel, he has 8,099 posts, he joined in september 2005.

Boinky who has joined in June 2007 has 8403 posts, felltohell joined in August 2007 and has 6,238 posts, If you add the ones from her other account to it, it would be about 10,000, iMumble joined in June 2007 and has 6,744 posts.

why don't you back it up by printing out these people's warning log to show that i actually warn them for making threads similar to what i made.

meanwhile, like i said, feel free to move the ones i made.

LOL You handed out soo many warning to so many people, it would take me hours to find the right warning, I really don't have the time for such things. And I can't ask those members to post in here either, because they already left AF and post nowadays on an AF copycat forum called asian folks or something, which was created by a banned AF member. Even an indo member called purple, who is a mod, pretty much left AF because of a certain moderator.

no, take your time, otherwise what you've just said in your earlier posts are just horse manure. sure.gif

and it's funny that you say that some people are leaving af because of so and so...are you saying that people have no will of their own?

and who banned that person who created asia folks...

stop with the red herring, it would do all of us here much good.

I dont' think we have a problem with your suggestion of a Cultural Off-topic thread in every chat where folks can get to know each other better blah blah...

What we have a PROBLEM with is an over-zealous mod who makes it his business to warn for every slight infraction and mistakes and piss the forumers.

I have experienced that with han2 in Indochat. So have several other Indochatters. to this day, there is still complaints about his modding, just check this thread. It is a long story the chaos han2 created with his modding style in Indochat, for this reason, we are glad he's out of the Indochat modship.

Sorry no offence here. Just setting the record straight. biggrin.gif

And yes! Let's have cultural off-topic whatever dumpster thread in every chat!! beerchug.gif
