Hello, I'm a guy with poker straight hair but its so coarse and thick that it grows straight up. Its impossible to style other than spikes or growing it 5 inches so it falls down but I don't like it that long. I just want it to be more manageable. I've heard about other Asians using the types of relaxers that black women use with good results, its supposed to make the hair more "relaxed" so it lays flat. Anyone here tried it?

I don't see how it would make it lay flat but I can understand it would take out bulk, so its worth a try. This post has been edited by dusk99: Jan 16 2011, 07:20 PM |

You really cant go wrong with it, just go crazy in a section then move on. what kind of hair style do u have? You obviously have to cut closer to your scalp or mid hair length. Right now my hair is one inch on top, and a number 2 on the sides, but I plan on keeping the sides short and growing the top longer. |

I've read posts on different forums from Asian guys who said that after they used an Africa-American hair relaxer on their hair, it became more manageable and lay flat. |

Ya you'll prolly have to grow ur hair out to at least 3 inches before thinning it out will actually do anything other than getting spikes.

its better to have thick hair cos u manage it better with good haircut/style what u dont want is thinned out hair cos it means bad news that you are simply balding Don't take your thick hair for granted because one of these days you just might lose it!!!!!!!!!! |

Hey, I'm trying something new now. I'm letting the top grow longer while keeping the sides short and started using Gatsby Moving Rubber instead of gel. The top is one inch long now. I can push it down to the side and although it doesn't lay perfectly flat, it does have more shape now. I think it will lay better if I let it grow a few months.

I haven't cut the top at all, just had the sides cut every few weeks. I'm noticing a huge difference now that my hair is about 3 inches on top. It not longer sticks up. Its still kind of poofy after a shower but I wear a hat for 20-30 minutes and it lays flat all day. I've also noticed it lays much better if I only shampoo once every few days.
