Thanks ham_let for closing the old thread and redirecting it to this one. There's already a lot of ASEAN related topics in the various Country Chats and Other Cultures/AF Lounge, certainly much more than there were 2 years ago. Sometimes things get really hot and spiteful, so this place can be used as a place for peaceful freechat amongst members. It doesn't really have to be strictly ASEAN-related, but that'd be nice though. LOL |

^ I really would've picked you as my housemate u know, but I worry you''re gonna bore us to death with ceaseless talk on Randomthoughtia.
Things of note happening in ASEAN just now: political tussle in Thailand and Philippines. Malaysia's just boring. |

What ethnicity are you stillarook? You don't have to be ASEAN ethnicity to be a member here, all are wlecome. so....Who likes Durian fruit here? You bet! I love durian in all its permutations. Did you know that durian comes from the Malay word duri, which means thorn? :genius: We grow our own durian in Malaysia, but amongst the favourites is the Thai monthong breed. Durian's big in Myanmar too is it? |

Sigh... feel sorry for those that don't like durian. Like my brother for example. I got an idea, let's make a list of our affinity/familiarity with other ASEAN countries in descending order. I'll start. 1. Malaysia - home country 2. Singapore - shared history and demographics. Many family and friends there, been there countless times. 3. Brunei - friends from uni. Official ideology is Malay Muslim sultanate, something easy to relate to. 4. Indonesia - similar language, friendly people, too underrated 5. Thailand - favourite country outside Msia. Ex-gf and many very good friends there 6. Philippines - brothers and sisters of the bigger Malay race 7. Cambodia - exotic to Malaysians, yet Khmer look strikingly similar. Cham people. 8. Myanmar - ex-British colony too 9. Vietnam - there were many boat people around when I grew up in Malaysia, stoical people 10. Laos - the least known country for most Msians, me included |

Hey, CAmbodia is not a home of Cham. But we do allow Cham to live in harmony with us.
I like Durain as well. |
