I was just wondering. Musical albums have been changing it's form from LP, Cassete, CD and then MD. In some developing countries people still prefer to use cassette than cd's cause they're cheaper. Even in those countries new albums are still also sold & released in cassette form. But in most part of the world they are normaly sold in CD form. Cause of course first the quality is better and you can also skip tracks.
Some years ago there were this new form called MD(mini disc). It's basically a cd just in a smaller shape. But somehow it couldnt really beat CD out of the market. I dunno if its because it's too small (???) or because you would only get a small md cover instead of the bigger cd cover. Anyway if the market refused MD which has the same audio quality with cd but have the advantage of smaller size, they definitely don't want a form that are smaller than md. So those memory card like sony memory stick, xd, cd card, etc that are popular rite now arent the next option. So what we got till now is that smaller size isn't option. THe only option left is better quality ? But what quality ?? It's gonna be really hard for the next form to beat cd out of the market. Especially cause people are already comfortable with them. And ppl already have most albums in CD form, so it would sux a lot when suddenly theres a new form of music albums, cause like when you are collectin one artist album you would have their old albums in cd and the new one in other form. Get what I mean ?? So I'm just wondering what the market(us) want. Are the people already satisfied with the form of audio cd ?? So tell me what do you guys want or your ideas here. |

as for me I would say that I would like to have a smaller form of CD. CD's are too big for me. MD is like the perfect size for me. So why the hell do they stop producing albums in MD form ?? .....

I don't believe MD was ever intended or marketed as medium to replace CD. That's why all the MD players had ways of burning MDs. I think it was marketed more as competition for MP3 players and such. The CD size does seem to be 'perfect.' New formats like DVD, HD DVD, and Blu-Ray are all cd size. They seem content with the physical size and are just increasing memory. Part of this is probably just compatibility so you don't have to have a complicated loading tray.

So what do you think the next album format would look like ? This post has been edited by hakseng: Jun 7 2005, 08:53 AM |
