China's UHV technology leads the world
(chinadaily.com.cn) Updated: 2011-01-11 14:28 ![]() An ultra-high voltage (UHV) transmission experiment is carried out at minus 20 C at an experimental base of the State Grid Electric Power Research Institute, Jan 9, 2011. The experiment base is a leader in doing 12 UHV-related experiments in the world. In order to link major energy production bases with the nation's power-guzzling regions to ensure power supply, State Grid Corp of China announced in last August that it will build a network of ultra-high-voltage lines in northern, eastern and central China by 2015.[Photo/Asianewsphoto] ![]() Experimental facilities are covered with ice in a minus 20 C environment at an experimental base of the State Grid Electric Power Research Institute, Jan 9, 2011. China's accomplishments speak for themselves. Chinese never brag about their accomplishments. In fact, most Chinese don't even believe China will ever become a Superpower, even if she is at the cusp of Superpower-status, Chinese will continue to deny it.
Unlike snobby Koreans, they brag about literally everything. It comes from their inferiority complex of course. |

I consistently catch Chinese media and Chinese people for doing exact things or more they criticize Koreans of doing. Plenty of Chinese media brags about China's break throughs and this and that. Most Chinese I've met brags about how China will take over the world. Most Chinese I've met insists everything came from China even golf and Spagetti. Chinese I've met even insist all Asians were spawn from China. You have your POV. But don't think it's any holier than others. That's a Chinese proverb you should learn. Be respectful to others and you'll earn respect. Simple truth. |

The UHV technology is supplied by ABB, so i think the title is a bit misleading. However, it's nice to see China progressing so rapidly. The market potential is huge.

UHV technology maybe good in some ways ...
But, with much more power transmitted over on fewer lines, the impact resulting from losing a line is much higher. There are other dangers in advancing too fast And, without the proper precautions |

I have always wondered whether it is socially acceptable to brag in some societies / cultures. |

Bragging is considered horrible and repulsive in most cultures. I have always wondered whether it is socially acceptable to brag in some societies / cultures. Rabid and blind nationalism knows no boarders or creed. China will be 2X more nationalistic now and will be 10X more nationalistic then anyone. Partly because of sudden growth in economic powers giving it more prominence. And part of it is to hold the vast territories and people together. Nationalism is a weapon. A corrosive and destructive then any weapons out there. |

uh, definitely not american Not all Americans are from the Jersey Shore. Bragging is bad taste. You're right, nationalism is ugly. I hope future Chinese will not look down on those that are less fortunate than them. By all means love your country, but feeling superior to others just because you were born there is retarded. It's not like your required skill / talent / hard work for that to happen. This post has been edited by ktoast: Jan 18 2011, 10:46 AM |
