US has told an international agency that the ocean between Korea and Japan ought to be named 'Sea of Japan', instead of 'East Sea'.
It is hard to understand this kind of decision, considering that East Sea belongs to Korea's territory.

This naming problem does not end with the name; the current territorial dispute with Dokdo island falls right into place with this naming dispute as well.

If the international community gives Sea of Japan an O.K., then obviously this Dokdo problem will favor Japan, who has been claming false evidence and statements for the ownership of the islands.

Even old, ancient maps named the sea 'East Sea', not 'Sea of Japan'... how could they just change it now?

What kind of deal in the back did they make to make this possible?

Maybe the US has fallen for Japan's plan as well.

more neutral?? then how about the american or the uganda sea then?
come'on, the sea dun even borders china or PRC at all. even south china sea is a bad misnomer, while east china sea is still slightly reasonable.

in my opinion, there is no need to change the name as the name should not be translated into actual physical bearing.
just like a silverfish is not a fish, a hot dog is not a dog.

however if something must be done to appease everyone reasonably.
a name bearing references to both countries can be considered, in various permutations. of cos, a short name is preferred and practical.
