I looked up on Indonesia's gdp both nominal and ppp and found out that Indonesian economy was actually moving faster than some asean members.
In '98 indonesian gdp per capita was only around US600 but the gdp per capita on 2008 surprisingly had reached US 2,142 which is more than tripled compare to ten years ago. really surprising me coz it's not that easy to bring up gdp percapita of a nation with 240 million population in short period of time. god bless indonesia!! ^siapa God-nya ??? Kita bukan America where they theoretically have one God. We got heaps of them.
Maybe we should just say Bless Indonesia ? Sry for the off topic. @Miguelpinoy Thx for the info, I didn't even know it as well. |

^^ you are really not aware of the development of indonesia. Btw in the latest Global Asia Magazine the net worth of indonesia Top 40 wealthiest are US$60 billions while Malaysia is US $ 45 billions and singapore only around 20-23 billions. Hence, it puts indonesia as the first in South east asia while malaysia second and singapore third. The richest in indonesia is Aburizal Bakrie with wealth up to US $9.1 billions. He is also the richest in South east asia.

Hey, as an Indonesian we are obliged to believe in one God only. "Ketuhanan Yang Maha Esa", remember?
Anyway, Indonesia and the Philippines are at the same ground, we are less developed compared to Singapore, Malaysia, or Thailand, but we are more advanced than Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and Myanmar. |

^One God...The Muslim God ??
For instance skyisdalimit a Buddhist living in Sumatra should believe in the Muslim God, Allah because there is only one God ? What I'm trying to say is that there are lots of Gods in Indonesia since we're culturally diverse, and yes we can believe all of them, we can believe someone's else God and denounce ours or we can believe our own God. I know this is small matter but it just came through my mind that some people might be offended (not me) with phrase. Hey not all of us are tolerant and understanding. |

I thought the Buddhist system is based on belief in a Supreme State (of Mind), rather than belief in a Supreme Being.

Any God or god or goddess or gods..not necessarily of a particular religion thus the choice of words, since our republic is def not an Islamic theocracy. Remember even the traditional believers and/or Spiritualist are very much acknowledged in Indonesia under the banner 'Kepercayaan Kepada Tuhan YME'. |

Ok here....I got a question, Indonesia only recognize 5 religion, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Catholicism and Protestantism (?). Would people who believe other faiths (Shinto, Confucianism etc) find it hard to make ID, driver's license etc cause they don't believe in the 5 recognized religion ?? shouldn't we recognize all beliefs ? Sry for the off topic... |

Sry for the off topic... This is totally OT FYI, Confucianism is recognized in Indonesia and perceived as a "religion". Other faiths, as long as they believe in one supreme God would fall in "Kepercayaan Terhadap Tuhan Yang Maha Esa" category CMIIW. But I agree with you. It's time for us to embrace a wider point of view on religiosity. Of course we still have to exclude dangerous sects This post has been edited by Bhaskara: Jul 7 2008, 04:02 AM |

^^ now we are talking about GOD. Btw dutchie, i thought you always refrain yourself from talking about God. If i am not wrong you are doubting His existence. lololol. FYI, we are a secular nation. We recognize the 5 major religions. However, the question is why on earth being a muslim is one of the criterias that any presidential or ministers candidates have to fulfil? In other words, you can't be the president or the ministers if you are non-muslims. why?why?why?why?why?why?why?why?why?why?why?why?why?why?why?why?why?why?why?why?why?why?why?why?why?why?why?why?why?why?
this is a religist* policy. Religist* is the act of discrimination against certain group of people due to the faiths that they believe. Being a hypocrite is not my nature, but it's surely one of my strategies. All is fair in love and war. |

You guys stray too far from original subject of this thread...
Now lets leave God alone shall we...? God already have His hands full with all the problems... Back to the topic: I didn't realize that our GDP rose quite fast during these years..... Are we really growing that rich in such a fast pace...? Maybe because I'm still witnessed lot of poverty here in urban areas around Jakarta... But when I visited Bandung malls like Ciwalk and Paris Van Java.... hmm..., totaly hedonist, wealthy and rich... The notions of Indonesian youth swarming luxurious upperscales malls is really...., awesome and gaving the picture of bright future of wealthy Indonesians, but also disturbing for me at the same time.... As if Indonesian tends to be more "materialized" and less "social aware" of suffering around them... This post has been edited by Majapahitans: Jul 7 2008, 09:22 AM |

Keknya cuma krn ignorant aja, tapi udah pengen banget ngomong alias "overwhelmed". Trus cari kambing ijo. Biasa Bro, banyak yg cuma bisa ngomong tapi pada males ngecek langsung di sumber. "Katanya", "kata si Anu", "kata Om gue", tapi ngga pernah baca sumber aselinya. Orang2 begini yg bikin Indo ngga maju2. |
