All roads lead to the National Press Club’s Bulwagang Plaridel tonight, Dec. 15 when the NPC presents the 9th annual Tinig Awards in a show guaranteed to entertain its audience.

Revived after an absence of 13 years last year, the Tinig Awards give due recognition to top Vocal Artists as adjudged by a Board of Judges chaired by Sec. Serge Remonde. Members of the Board are entertainment editors, columnists, writers and persons knowledgeable about entertainment.

To be honored in alphabetical order are: Ogie Alcasid, Pops Fernandez, Janno Gibbs, Jaya, Kyla, Martin Nievera, Nina, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Gary Valenciano and Regine Velasquez.

The most promising Male and Female Singers are Christian Bautista and Sarah Geronimo. Other awardees are Best Ethnic Singer Joey Ayala, Best Broadway Singer Monique Wilson, Best Kundiman Singer Marco Sison and Best Group Singer South Border.

To be elevated to the Tinig Hall of Fame are Rico J. Puno and Imelda Papin. Freddie Aguilar will receive the Jose Mari Chan Award as Best Songwriter and Willy Cruz, the George Canseco Award as Best Composer.

Ayen Laurel and Bimbo Cerrudo will co-host the show which is directed by Marinez Elizalde.

NPC president Antonio A. Antonio has cited Pagcor, PCSO, San Miguel Corporation, Epson, Pag-Ibig, Manila Bulletin, Manila Times and the Journal Group of Publications for their support to the Tinig Project despite the present economic crunch.

Chairman of the Tinig Awards Committee is NPC VP Alice H. Reyes. Vice chairman is GMA Rod Cornejo and members of the Committee are Jorge Reyes, Gil Santos, Sanny Galvez, Lysander Garcia, Nestor Cuartero and Dennis Fetalino.

The show will be taped as live for airing on NBN 4 on Jan. 29, from 9:15 p.m. to 12:12 Jan. 30, 2005.
