Đụ má! if all the vietnamese restaurants start making real everyday foods that we eat, non-vietnamese would never set foot in them again. so, đụ má, enough with all the topics about food. Đụ má!

Có cái con -ĩ Miên nào ở bên Khmer Chat nó nói là bánh xèo xuất xứ từ Campuchia. Nghe thúi như mắm prahok! don't take what one person says and use it to humiliate a whole group of people. FYI, khmers usually retain the original names of food from foreign countries...ie. banh hoi, banh xeo, bun rieu, cha gio, etc....and even canh chua=somlaw machu yuon...the "yuon" clearly states where it came from. and we even have chinese (teochiu) food names such as kat na (chinese brocolli), tae (tea), uang sui (cilantro), chai bou (pickled vegetables), see iu (soy sauce). |

Really? How are the pronunciations for the Vietnamese food (like banh hoi, banh xeo, pho...) ? Pretty similar to how Viets call them? Wow, I didn't know you call tea "tae". Teochiu in VN call it "tế". And yeah, some Viets call soy sauce "xì ỉu" too. I don't think we have a Viet name for xá pấu (the pickled vegetables), so everyone calls it that. Regarding the origin of the food. I think it is pretty obvious. If it sounds like Viet then it'd likely be Viet. If it sounds Khmer then it'd likely be Khmer. BTW, do you know if "sau rieng" is Khmer or Thai origin? (I mean the name 'cause I don't think it's Viet origin) Your command of the Vietnamese language is pretty good, man. Sau rieng=Tho-rain in Khmer. I think Thais say the same thing. I don't know if it is a khmer word though, but it sounds close enough to the english translation, durian. "Your command of the Vietnamese language is pretty good, man." LoL, you should hear me sing "Con Gai Bay Gio"....and "Trong Vang Chieu Nay", it'll crack you up. |

I didn't know that you can read Vietnamase! Anyway, i did not humiliate the whole group of any people, I just meant whatever that person said is not bearable. |

I do think the word "sau rieng" came from it. Oh! That was you, man. My ears have been killing me since yesterday.... j/k This post has been edited by NTV: Mar 9 2006, 08:41 AM |
