Mariah was asked for a commentary about Asia's Songbird and the Pride of the Pride of the Filipino people, Regine Velasquez. And she hissed at Donita by saying our beloved Regine, is "a brown monkey who can sing." I personally found her comments very insulting since I am a Filipina myself. Please pass this message to all your FILIPINO friends. The story was actually published on ABS-CBNnews.com. But after some time, the article turned out to be the product of unprofessional journalism on the part of the ABS-CBN celebrity reporter. Alleged sources of the misinformation vary, usually pointing to an unidentified tabloid with references to elements in the local PR industry. ABS-CBNnews.com has since then put out an article which, though not exactly apologetic, debunks the rumors and sets the record straight. Donita Rose's disclaimer in the Philippine Star says that she never had such an interview with Mariah Carey. "The said article claims that international superstar Mariah Carey made a derogatory remark when asked to comment on our own Regine Velasquez during an interview I supposedly conducted for MTV Asia. This alleged interview never took place except in the fertile minds of people who have not bothered to check their facts and made me an unwitting party to a distressing situation." It's important to ask when you receive this kind of message: would a professional, world-famous artist like Mariah Carey deliberately self-destruct her career by being so blatantly racist? If she did, wouldn't such an act make headlines in entertainment news around the world? Mariah Carey herself is heir to a mixed racial heritage, with an African-American father. It's unlikely that someone who has grown up with this knowledge, fully aware of the prejudice that accompanies such a background, would herself become prejudiced against other racial groups. I also advise some discreet caution when reading ABS-CBNnews.com's entertainment section. This isn't the first -- or last -- time it's happened. Yes, There was an issue back then that Mariah had called Regine Velasquez " Brown Monkey" when she saw Regine's video in an MTV

I think it's all bull$hit, juz like what that art bell guy apparently said about phils. Up till now that email is still circulating even after it had been cleared up. Anyways, I like Mariah, sure she kinda stuffed up her career but her voice is still amazing. She honestly has one of the best voices ever, and by the way, I do not see anything wrong with Regine Velasquez. So wht if she is feeling maganda, like ppl have no right to feel pretty once in a while. I think she is pretty, and I'm glad she is not a half pinay. At least she is still pure filipina, not like the celebrities in the PI.
