Hi baby Furansizuka icon_wink.gif

Yes I went here, with old Merpati Boeing 737-200 from Yogya, and from Ternate to Bacan PP with a Casa 212. Banyak jam karet, but that is Indonesia I don't care anymore. It was my long wish to go to the Moluccas, I have seen the islands a few times from above as I came from Papua. But the situation was not so "kondusif" there the last few years, people with different religeons trying to split each others head, like hooligans, my club is better than yours. MU rules, Allah = Nr One or Yesusmania, gila toh.

When flying from Makassar I sighted Tidore & Ternate, this sight is so fantastic, one will never forget this in his life, as the shape of these two islands (and a few more like Moti and Makian) is so specific. The plane turned around Ternate from the west and I could have a look right into Gamalama's smoking and boiling crater. Ternate is quite a busy commercial town, but actually it is one long road, as the Gn. Gamalama is so steep the cannot build too high. Accomodation is expensive and not so good, but I did not care that much, as it was a holiday. The food is really fantastic, I ate seefood for 2 weeks,as this is my favorite food. Difficult to get in Solo, there they prefer fish that eats tahi and mayat (lele, ikan mas, belut dll) I don't like ikan air tawar because the taste of soil and of course their dirty diet.

Tidore was very clean and quit, even boring, they never allowed Arab or Chinese traders on the island, even the capital Siosiu looks like a kampung, although many nice houses with big gardens full of flowers. Also lots of beauitul dogs without an owner, people from Menado could have a great time there, catching delicatessen.

Bacan was the nicest, I had to fly there with an old Merpati Casa 212, which goes twice a week, as I did not feel to take the boat, a 9 hour trip by boat at night, I have seen that too often, Indonesians at sleep, banyak ngorok, like illegal tree cutting. One of the funniest things were the angkot with very load music, like driving disco's. Also the beca have a bassbox instead of a seat and lights like a pohon hari natal at night, I have even seen ojeg with big speakers. Also many parties at night with loud music, which makes the first hours of sleep quite difficult.

In a small place like Labuha, wre I stayed there were amazing good restaurants. There was one small restoran ran by a Buginese woman from Makassar which could easily earn 3 Michelin ***, so good. The cumi-2 and ikan bakar tasted wood. All kind of vegetables I never tasted (I am a daun-2 lover, like all kambing tua). Her alpokat juices with Toraja coffee were world class. I rented a prahu to go to Kasiruta, beautiful islands, oasis of white sand and impossibly blue water. The corals are still OK, but a lot of fish bombing is done there, so how long will it take?

The Moluccan people their have a good sense of humor, they love to laugh out very loud. One can see also rambut keriting there, so more variation than on Jawa, although Polycolor in very false colors became fashion in the big cities on Java, as well as piercings, which are outdated in the West. I consider this as a cannibal look on Eastern people. In 2 weeks I have met 5 turis asing, two couples from Amsterdam, my home town and one unindentified person who wanted to be alone in this world, he looked German to me. Beer is illegal, but can be bought on he slide for 25.000 Rp/botlle. For the first ime in my life I have seen a pohon Pala and vanille, so the trip was educational as well and as oleh-oleh I brought manisan pala.

Hi Mas Nus,

I should like to see them. From which year? They can't be from the Dutch time as the British took over in 1825. Actually I have most of the VOC buildings in my own photo's on my site, I went many times to Malaysia. In a few ways a very nice country, as the quality of life is very good there, but the people and much of the land are rather boring. I especially like Melaka.

Good internet bukan prioritas pemerinta R.I. Telkom in Solo has promised ADSL one year ago, but they postphone all the time saying they can't get an izin. so I keep sponsoring them through high bills.

Yesterday I brought another 1,5 jt to their office, on the bill was stated :"Mulai 1 april 2006 Telkom menerapkan kebijakan sanksi dan denda yang baru" Maybe if one pays not in time they'll bom your house. They want you to pay the bill when they ask for it. But promising ADLS for nearly a year is just "biasa" for them. It is time to open up this market for more human providers.

Hi Baby F.,

I remember how astonished I was when I first understood the meaning of "Barang sudah dibeli tidak boleh ditukar atau uang dikembalikan" like I bought something from a penipu. But my experience is that when something is wrong a shop changes it for a new item, although friends tell me it is impossible, I think they never tried. It could also be that shopkeepers are malu when an unshaved bule makes amok. A consumer in Indonesia is something like a wild animal that can be shot down to rip his/her money.

My Telkom bills I call sponsoring, otherwise I will be malu as I spend an amount of money on internet which is enough to feed a middle sized kampung for a whole month, but on the other hand my living also comes from which I earn through internet, tanpa Telkom aku mati. Lebih baik aku kasian dgn Telkom dari pada....

Hi Haqine,

What makes you miss Ambon? Are you from there ?

I am planning a trip to Ambon and surroundings in the next few weeks, but only to take pictures of what is left from "Kompeni’s" fortifications and buildings

There seems to be still a lot of them there. I will go to Ambon, Haruku, Saparua and Nusa Laut. I don't know yet what more. On Seram there is a benteng, but I also should like to go to Fakfak, because I like the name so much. And when I look at the map of Buru I suspect there must be some forts there as well. Teluk Kayeli looks as a perfect hiding place for ships to attack Ternate or protect Ambon. It's a pity that Ambon city is not so attractive at the moment, but I will find other places to base myself.

I'm guessing that Nus was referring to the Stadhuys building built by the Dutch in 1650.

Nice photos BTW londoh. I like seeing photos of Indonesia.

Hello Londoh, they just introduced ADSL here last year but it's kind of hopeless as the telcom landlines keep getting cut anyway. The cost is about US$200 per month for 256KBS. How much wd it cost in Solo??

Do u have fotos of the spice plantations in the Moluccas?

Hi Malaccan,

Thanks. BTW, do you live in Melaka ? It is my favorite city in S.E. Asia, I have been there often.
I will give a lot to have tomorrow morning a breakfast of Roti Canai and Kopi-O in Cafe Madras in the old town.Melaka is changing fast, but it changes in a nice way, it keeps the centuries old character of the city.

I remember the first time I was there eating fish at the beach, it is now a parking lot of a big shopping center. On my site I have also many foto's from VOC buildings in Malaysia, I think I have seen them all, many in Melaka of course

Hi also to Tangawizi

US$ 200 month, that is what I pay using telephone. They told me that the cheapest flat rate was abt. US$ 35, plus a fee and one has to buy a modem.

Nutmeg and cloves, the spices from these spice island dont grow on plantations, but in a kind of mix with all kind of other (fruit) trees. Nutmeg needs a higher tree for shadow, they use Kenari, which also has fruits (nuts) that taste good. Cloves I know from Java but there I saw my first nutmegtree

Mas londoh, this is an amazing foto of a nutmeg, I have never seen how a nutmeg looks in its pristine natural state. It reminds me of a miniature version of the sea-coconut (coco de mer) from Seychelles.

If you enjoy spices as much as VOC architecture, you must come to Zanzibar and visit the spice plantations. I have seen lemon grass, turmeric, clove and vanilla pods on Zanzibar. I think the clove trees there came originally from the Moluccas.

Hi londoh. No, I'm from KL but my mom and 'ibu angkat' come from Melaka. So I have two kampungs in Melaka and was brought up with Malaccan sensibilities. I'm just happy to hear that you like Melaka. It has lost much of its old world charm but at dusk under the right kind of light, that place is still bewitching. Someday I hope to travel across southeast Asia at my own pace just like you have.

I know which shopping centre you're talking about there. Mahkota Parade icon_rolleyes.gif

That's right Malaccan, I have photos of Stadhuys building but londoh already have all that photos in his collections and he took it much better than me, I think he took it very early in the morning so no tourist and people around so I refrain myself to show my photos here.
