America will always lead, despite China growing into an economic superpower. People have this notion that China will be looked up to and will produce the best, but realistically speaking China is an immature country in many areas (education, human rights, scientific research, literature, just to name a few) despite their uprising, and they still need to fix these things or at least put attention on these things before China can be considered a leader of anything in this world. If you look at the countries that are on top and countries that are respected; U.S.A., Japan, Germany, Sweden, France - they excel in all fields. This lets us know that it takes more than being economically fit to be admired and to be seen as a country that leads the rest. Only when China tends to these faults and fixes the inner damages will China actually be respected and not just considered.

I think you have a misconception of the U.S being a leader of the "free" world. I'd say it's more like the enslaver of the third world. It isn't really American people that are the problem, or even capitalism, but what capitalism has turned into.
