http://focustaiwan.tw/ShowNews/WebNews_Det...ID=201105170048 2011/05/17 23:03:56 Washington, May 16 (CNA) QUOTE Of the total budget, US$300 million will be used to buy 600 Mk54 lightweight hybrid torpedoes to replace Mk46 anti-submarine torpedoes, the report said.
In addition, US$160 million will be spent on the purchase of 40 Mk48 heavyweight submarine-launched torpedoes designed to sink fast, deep-diving nuclear-powered submarines and high-performance surface ships. This post has been edited by Red Fox Ace: May 17 2011, 08:18 PM |

No matter what Taiwan purchases from the US, Taiwan, in a real war, is no match to PRC. Therefore the purchases are really there to make US happy, with no real military purposes. |

Wouldn't this be the best time for China to re-engage with its neighbors in a mutual relationship partner's? Just in case the U.S mingle with your neighbors to create a for seen future Guerrilla warfare. It is a possibility as we can see now.

Learn from the 3rd Reich. Chinese Fascism is still fascism. Go ahead and annex your tiny neighbours and a couple of years later you'll have permanant U.S. military bases in Shanghai. lol. neo fascists still believe in annexation just like they believe in medieval dynasties. === It is a bait.. try not to bite it. That's all I'm saying. This post has been edited by badparticle: May 22 2011, 10:48 PM |

If you can tell me what China could build or buy that would make it invincible, I'll tell you what could make Taiwan invincible. I don't think any country in its right mind would think of attacking China today. Taiwan...., well, it is just not in the same league. Nothing it buys from the US would really make a difference. The difference is not Taiwan but US. |

The difference is not Taiwan but US. If Taiwan wants to remain an independent nation, at least it needs to diplay to the whole world, particulary to the U.S., that it has a strong will to do so. Like the German tank-buster ace of the WW2 Hans Rudel said, "Only he is lost who gives himself up to be lost." This post has been edited by Kstragist: Jun 3 2011, 05:34 PM |

All I'm trying to say is that China should not be dissatisfied with where she's at in the Anglo-American world order. Germany did that, Russia did that , and Japan been there done that. Chinese had been jumping from extreme right to left and from left to right(now) for 100 years. They refuse the middle. Which is fine if China does its own thing internally. But any extra territorial claim is a big no-no in the world order. |

Please note that with each fail attempt to challenge the incumbent world power, the challenger's share of pie gets "re-configured"
Last time, the Empire of Japan challenged the world order and as a result, the following arrangement was made to the territories of the Empire: Japan proper( whole, militarily occupied, full nation status but constitutionally humiliated) Korea (divided by half, militarily occupied, full nation status) Formosa (whole, militarily unoccupied, half-nation status) So back to the topic. Torpedoes made in U.S.A. are made with the intention to sink ships that are against the U.S.A. It doesn't matter where the torpedoes are deployed. It doesn't matter who fires the torpedoes. |

You know what will be the reconfiguration for the US if it tried? Radioactive wasteland: NYC, Washington DC, Los Angelos, San Francisco, Chicago, Houston, Miami, Detroit, Hawaii, and many more. IRBMs can also take out all of South Korea and Japan with about 20 nukes due to their population density. Hows that sound for reconfiguration? Sure, you can nuke us back, but the US will be permanently crippled and lose 80% of its population and 99% of its industry. If our nukes aren't enough we can nuke Russia too and force it to nuke the US to prevent US from being the sole surviving military power.
