Why, though! Why is it so unfathomable for some to be Filipino! It is a goshdamn tropical paridise... because being black, white, or korean is uso these days. |

Filipinos would probably excel in that. and how about gossiping? shouldn't there be one helluva contest in gossiping? i don't know about the statistics, but there's this small town in the Philippines - Dauis, Bohol where gossipers literally gather every single day at the town plaza to gossip. if there was somebody who recorded the minutes of every gossip meeting, they would have accumulated 135,987,882,034 gossips or "stories against their neighbors". LOL. Beat that. |

Anyways, the church you were talking about is the Dauis Church and it has a fresh-water well inside it. Very unique. If you have been to Dauis/Panglao lately it is so beautiful with these new top-level hotels sprawling! I should be able to post pics. |

Standout NCAA Fil-Am netter in RP women’s team
By jean malanum UNIVERSITY OF California Los Angeles (UCLA) standout Riza Angela Zalameda will banner the Philippine women’s tennis team in the forthcoming Southeast Asian Games. Joining Zalameda in the squad are Denise Dy, who is also based in California, Fil-German Vanessa Anja Peter and Czarina Mae Arevalo. The 5-foot-4 Zalameda brings with her an impressive credential, the most recent was reaching the NCAA Division 1 singles semifinal round where she lost to Northwestern’s Audra Cohen, the tournament third seed. Zalameda eliminated second seed Julie Coin of Clemson, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, in the quarterfinals. The Los Angeles-born Zalameda is the eldest daughter of former RP Davis Cupper Rollie and Angie, who both migrated to the US. She was named 2004 Player of the Year by the Los Angeles Times after leading UCLA to a team-best 10 singles victories. In 2003, Zalameda was elevated to the Beverly Hills High School Hall of Fame after steering her school to four consecutive team championships. She was ranked No. 1 in Southern California and was a member of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Junior Federation Cup team that competed in France in 2002. National coach Johnny Jose is optimistic that Zalameda’s inclusion in the team will boost the country’s bid of winning the gold after Maricris Fernandez won the ladies singles in the 1999 Brunei SEA Games. "Based on her performance in the NCAA, Zalameda is a very good player. Her inclusion in the team will make the national team more competitive," said Jose, an Asian Games gold medalist. Arevalo, who just finished a three-month training in India, and Dy are currently seeing action in the Asian Championships in Uzbekistan while Peter is playing in Europe. All four members of the national women’s team are scheduled to play in the two-leg Philippine Futures scheduled in November at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center. Making up the men’s team are Fil-Americans Cecil Mamiit and Eric Taino, Johnny Arcilla and Patrick John Tierro. Mamiit, who is currently ranked No. 231 in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), won two doubles titles this year. He teamed up with Taino (ranked No. 267) in the Ho Chi Minh Challenger in March and paired with American Brian Vahaly in the Bronx Challenger last month. Tierro, the youngest in the team at 20, played in the Japan Futures and Satellite tournaments in India, Thailand and Indonesia. Meanwhile, Jose and players Kyle Joshua Dandan, Ralph Kevin Barte and Pablo Olivarez II leave today for Barcelona, Spain to attend a three-week training camp before competing in the Junior Davis Cup slated September 27. Dandan is the only Filipino player chosen by the International Tennis Federation to join the 16-under Junior Touring Team that played in France and Italy early this year. Fil-Europeans boost RP football team
By dominic menor BRAGGIO, Gould, Prochnow. If they are soccer players, their foreign-sounding names would normally be read on UEFA headlines, or European Champions League news. Guess what? They are soccer players. And they are likely to play for Team Philippines in the coming Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in November. The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) combed Europe for possible foreign-based Filipinos and it hit on a few names that showcased talent and, more importantly, showed interest in playing for their mother country in the biggest sporting event this side of Asia. "I think if basketball can get some ‘Fil-foreigners,’ other sports can get these types of athletes as well," said Nonoy Carpio during an interview at the PFF office in the PhilSports Arena. Carpio is deputy general secretary for the PFF’s youth development. Among the athletes Carpio’s group has shown interest in are attacking midfielders Philip Braggio of Italy and Chris Greatwich of England; striker Chad Gould, another England-based player; and German midfielder Andy Prochnow. All four are said to be of Filipino descent. Greatwich and Gould had played for the RP team in the last Tiger Cup in December while Prochnow showed his wares in the RP under-17 class. Another player Team Philippines is looking at is a Filipino who resides in Denmark. Negotiations to have the "Fil-Danish" booter play for the Philippines is underway, as Denmark has invited the said player to suit up for its own national team. But national coach Aris Caslib cautioned the said players from falling into a sense of security. "Not because these players have these credentials that they will make it to the team automatically. They will have to go through inspection first when they arrive here, gauge their technical abilities, tactical understanding, test their physique and mental stability. "In other words, they will have to earn their slots." According to Carpio, the discovery of overseas talent is expected to help local football immensely not only for the SEA Games but also beyond the biennial meet. "Ang thinking kasi ng karamihan sa players natin, na hindi football playing country ang Pilipinas," Carpio revealed. "So when we meet countries like Malaysia, Vietnam or Singapore, intimidated kaagad tayo. But you kind of offset that once we get players who are in the caliber of those who play in Europe." Caslib agreed. "The Filipinos are the only ones in Southeast Asia who will have its foreign-based citizens playing for their country. Singapore has its own naturalized citizens. Last I heard Malaysia and Vietnam will strictly play their locals kasi wala silang players from abroad." Asked whether any citizenship row is likely to disrupt the PFF’s plans of recruiting these foreign players, Carpio said the recruits will cooperate with the authorities. "We have a Filipino-Italian who was referred to us by no less than the Philippine Embassy in Italy through the Philippine Sports Commission tapos Chad and Chris have played already for the RP Team, so I think we won’t experience any problems regarding the players’ legitimacy," he said. End it…end it… Another upswing to the recruitment of the said players is their willingness to shoulder initial expenses before they actually make the team. "Nag-agree na kami na we will only allot the budget for them kapag nasa team na sila," Carpio said. "And they didn’t complain." |
