u can bring any GSM tri-band(900/1900/1800) phone back to vietnam, they will unlock for u with cheap price, then get a prepaid sim for around $1-$3 .
Vietnam use ALOT of Nokia, which is ridiculous. those are too expensive and doesnt have enough feature to go with it. |

unlock is anywhere from $5 - $10 depend on where u would get. and the prepaid card is around $10.
but i would suggest u get it unlock here because they think u rich because u American and will rip u off alot. If u use Cingular, call them and ask them to unlock u for free if u been a customer for more than 90 days. or u can get cheap unlock service from moms and pops shop around town. vietnamese in VN would spend lots of money on cellphone, thats why many vietnamese in America use the trick of report a "lost" phone, so the service would get them a new phone, then bring it back to VN and sell for double the price. |

I am Canadian so I think its around 200 to unlock phone here... so 5-10 bucks will be okie to unlock it in vietnam.. I don't mind paying that price rather than $200... don't usually post threads on here but yeah ^_^,you guys are over exagerating about cell phones prices in vietnam.vietnam prices in phone are hell alot cheaper in vietnam compared to here.. in north america, some of the phones we can't even get in north america unless it was imported over, tends to be pricier here than over there. here we buy phones that are offered by service providers. or if you if you have a unlocked phone which hasn't been restricted. the price you pay for a phone in vietnam is cheaper in many ways, unless you're comparing the Yearly contracts than the phone would be cheaper yes.... but if you're talking about a straight out buy.... with no contracts, than cell phones in vietnam would be cheaper by a hundred or so depends on the model you're looking at. and the nokia 8800, is going for around 14 million dongs.... which would come to be less than a 1000 U.S Dollars. and would be slightly over a 1000 Canadian dollars. haha it's amazing to see how much the canadian dollar gone up compared to that of the US now ^_^
but yeah, any phone dual band or tri-band will work in vietnam , but only a couple conditions apply, any gsm cell phone would work, but it has to have the gsm 900 :Band, like the samsung e715, it's a dualband 900/1900 but it has capabilites of being changed into a 900/1800 band haha gotta love cell phones ^_^ |

I myself have a razor and it SUCKS, just the thinness, nothing else if good about this phone |

In January I bought a low end cell in Sai Gon for U$100. Then you can buy lots of minutes for $20. That is much cheaper than in Canada. And receive air time is free.

I think Nokia 8800 suck compare to Sharp 903 in performance+feature and 903 is like 500$ phone. I prefer US rather than Vietnam cause I can get free phone from T-Mobile Sharp TM150, T-Mobile Nokia SGH-d415 all 1 year or Motorala V3 free with something selective in the contract? But yeah I think the US phone company is trying to catch up. The phone I have is Sharp 902 and TM 150 which is comparable to Sharp 902 except it lack bluetooth/mp3.
