"If a president has foreign resident status or passport, how can he convince people he is loyal to the country?" asked Hsieh, who is running for president against Ma in the March 22 poll.

"But it was some 20 years ago and we no longer used them after we returned to Taiwan in the 1980s," said Ma in a hastily called news conference to try to control damage.

Ma, who along with his wife studied for a law degree at Havard University between 1974 and 1981, said according to the US immigration law, the green cards would become invalid if they are not used for more than a year.

Well there you have it the DPP hates everyone on this board for having dual citizenship or residency status abroad.

What I find so funny about this is that Hsieh studied abroad in Japan. Shouldn't someone question his loyalty to Taiwan over that?

A racist attack or remark , is like saying blacks are inferior to whites. DPP only wants to ISOLATE themselves politically from repressive, terrorist warlord of beijing who is pointing 1000 missles at taiwan. Anyone all over the world would want to isolate and distant themselves from communist dictators. We all know, warlord beijing is playing tribal warfare and has a never ending quest for more power. Just like in africa, those war lords don't care who they kill or threaten , they only want more power. beijing is the exact same way.
that is why we see the DPP trying to protect Taiwan interests and separating themselves away from agressive warlords of beijing.

Of course he had temporary residency to student in Japan. Unless he was studying in Japan illegally or a is a Japanese citizen. He would have to obtain a visa to leave the airport.

Uhm, that's why the DPP are going after Taiwanese with Green Cards? Is 88 a reference to your birth year or your IQ score? I guess you can be forgiven in both cases for thinking a US Green Card is being issued by Beijing.

mainland china's Jiang Je Min, the former dictator of commie china's children all live in the US in the east coast with green cards. And Hu jin Tao's daughter received her US green card two years ago.
why are these commies so desperately wanting to live in the US? Is mainland china not good enough for them???
It is normal for Taiwan's DPP to love the US. Since they are allies.
But, why does mainland chinese top officials's children want to live in the US as well?
They shamelessly trash talk deomcratic countries, and shamelessly move to the US.
they are pathetically sad.

vincelee88,

Didn't the DPP member, Frank Hsieh, just say only those unloyal to Taiwan would get a US green card?
I other words he considers his mother, brother, and sister to be unloyal.

Actually most of pro-Taiwan Independence leaders have US green cards or US citizenship. This is a well known fact in Taiwan. embarassedlaugh.gif

dpp and the US are close allies, so therefore, they should have US green cards.
But, why in the world would ccp / jiang je min's and hu jin tao's family have US green cards?! why are the commies in china who hate america so desperately trying to get US green cards too?!
That is total hyproicy to me. If you hate america, then don't apply for us green cards.
it is the same with kmt supporters too, they all refuse to visit china, and yet shamelessly live here in the us, and trash talk US , Taiwan and other democratic countries.
such hypricites. they should all move back to china and stay there.

The rivers change, now the tide is changeing to the east river(the Orient express baby).

You talk about us going back there, is almosy like saying why don't you move your sorry bum back to where you came from also.

No. nobody in taiwan would question Hsieh's loyal to Taiwan..Just as DDP would never question Ma's loyal to KMT and the Republic of China. Really they don't care what Ma is loyal to, ROC or USA. All they want to show is Ma's character.
The issue is about not whether anybody studied or lived abroad. Ma used to be an anti-PRC/Democracy/TI/Japan activist in his youth and has been part of the totalitarian KMT rule. It's ironic that he got himself US. permanent residency in the late 70s because he has always portrayed himself as a KMT Republic of China zealot.
I know I'm sounding like a DPP spokesperson but I'm just reflecting what they're saying. Personally i think this issue is not that a big deal since Taiwanese tend to be very forgiving and pragmatic.

Uhm didn't MYJ get kicked out of the KMT when he was over-zealously pursuing a corruption case against James Soong.

I think those of us familar with Taiwan politics know that MYJ is part of the younger generation of in the KMT that wasn't so extreme in the love of China and reunification that they formed the New Party.

No. MYJ has always been a KMT and he never attacked James Song. Nobody ever got kicked out of KMT for attacking James Soong, who formed the People First Party ,remember?
MYJ is not very extreme in unifying with China because he's old school KMT. Old school KMT politicians like CKS only believe in power and are never sincerely interested in unifying the Chinese anyway. MYJ was acting like an extreme right-wing nationalist because he was young and taught so by his family or KMT(that's coming back to haunt him now) Later he became more mature and learned to be cautious and conservative in everything he said, unlike Lian and Song who tried very hard to be creative in politics.
