thus anyone here know about the story of Kumintang? All I know is that it is a war song and the story basically involves King Soladan and his sons Bagtas and Mandukit which he summoned to Majapahit... I don't know about the rest of the story, I just read it on an old book years ago, and still I don't know the whole story of Kumintang. I also read somewhere in the net that Kuminang was once a kingdom located on the present-day Batangas.
thanks, any help would be appreciated |

Unfortunately, I am not yet familiar with the Kumintang War song.
Anyways, King Soladan looks awfully similar to Nick Joaquin's and the Will of Pansonum's Emperor Soledan or Angka/Anka Vidjaya/Vijaya/Widjaya/Wijaya of Majapahit Empire. Whose name Vijaya seemed to connect him to the former Sri-Vijayan empire. While Bagtas looks synonymous to Prince Balagtas of Majapahit(Madya-pait)thalassocracy just like Maragtas of the Madya-as confederation. So Madya-as is synonymous with Majapahit? Maragtas legend, of course, talks about the fleeing of the TEN BORNEAN DATUS. Prince Balagtas of Majapahit was the son of King Soledan(Angka Widjaya) with Dayang or Empress Sasaban of the Kingdom of Sapa/Zabag just like Bagtas was the son of Soladan. One of their descendants is Fernando Malang Balagtas whose territory encompassed Tuy/Cagayan and Central Luzon. Pansonum christened(given the Christian name) as Don Fernando Malang Balagtas claimed he was the LAKANDULA MAJOR or THE REAL LACANDULA OF TONDO while the usurper, whom he claimed as the Lakandula Minor was Si Banau christened as Don Carlos Lacandola. Some historian claimed Banau was Haring Matanda or Raja Matanda or Muhamad bin Suleiman but that latter most probably would be his brother Raja Soliman II or Raja Ache, the father of their nephew, the last ruler of Muslim Manila, Raja Mura/Raja Soliman III. It is actually Raja Ache or Raja Matanda who unseated the real Lakandula and replaced him with his youngest brother Banau. Lakandula was the title to refer to the King of Luzon/Lusung. Interestingly, Gat Lontoc or the Brunei Sultan Nakhoda Ragam, who was the father of Srilela or Salalila or Raja Soliman I, claimed he was the emperor from Malacca to Manila. While the Parameswara or Iskander(Alexander) Sha, the Majapahit sovereign who founded the Sultanate of Malacca claimed he was the proselytizer of Brunei. http://www.asiafinest.com/forum/index.php?...t&p=4460737 From the interweb... QUOTE Rajah Soliman III is among the debatable personalities in history. His identity was always attributed to the Battle of Bangkusay in 1571 – the first armed battle of the Filipinos whose mission was to repulse the Spaniards and to wave the preservation of their sovereignty and independence against any banyaga or foreigners. Spanish accounts mention a certain “brave youth from Macabebe” who led 2000 Moro warriors from Macabebe and Hagonoy to Bangkusay who at that time, almost the riverine and coastal communities in Luzon and the old Capangpañgan region embraces the Islamic faith. This Rajah Soliman III didn’t appeared in any Spanish accounts which only come in to view when the Americans became interested to the 1589 Will of Fernando Malang Balagtas (or Pansomun when he was still unbaptized) and they proliferated inaccuracies in ancient Tondo-Manila power(wherein fact, even the Testament itself doesn’t tell about this Rajah Soliman). They made used of the Testament only to figure out that “Rajah Soliman” was a reign name or titular title of whosoever became the paramount ruler of Manila – and that was undeniably right. But it's still vague if who are the pre-colonial rulers who bear the title Rajah Soliman and do they used such "Rajah Soliman I, II, or III.” The clear view of Rajah Soliman's identity is that by using the 1589 Testament allied with other extant accounts pertaining to the noble families of Luzon, there were five rulers who ruled Manila: Emperor Soledan then succeded by his son Gat Lontoc then passed to his son Salalila; when Salalila died it was grabbed by Pansomun (the testator) which was his nephew and then later overthrew Pansomun by Salalila’s son and heir Si Banau who used the names Muhamad bin Suleiman and Rajah Matanda; later Si Banau was succeded by his younger brother (or nephew for other historians) Ladiamora who used the title Rajah Soliman in1570-71. QUOTE The fleeing nobles were led by Prince Balagtas, who picked up a wife in Brunei on his way here. That wife was Panginuan, granddaughter of the Sultan himself, Magat Araw, who changed his name to Bolkiah upon conversion to Islam (that's right-he is the ancestor of Prince Jefri Bolkiah of Brunei, the world's richest head of state). Panginuan had a brother named Sri Lela (or Salalila) whose children Lakan Dula, Rajah Matanda and Rajah Mura (Soliman) became the rulers of Tondo and Manila at the time of the Spanish Conquest in 1571. Panginuan also had a sister named Lahat, whose children were Mandik, Monmon, Gat Bonton, Gat Chalian, Gat Maitan, Gat Maitim, Gat Dula (names that survived to this day) and Makaralaga. Panginuan herself had three children by Prince Balagtas: Malangsik, Dapatmagmanuk and Makayabongdili. It was these three siblings that went north of Manila and organized the scattered tribes into what would become the Kapampangan Region. They also married their cousins (Lahat's children): Malangsik married Mandik, Dapatmagmanuk married Monmon, and Makayabongdili married Gat Bonton. The Malangsik-Mandik marriage produced Pansonum who was baptized Fernando Malang Balagtas when the Spaniards arrived in Manila in 1571. The Will of Pansonum: QUOTE Ing Arau[the father of Sultan Nakhoda Ragam], a mapiang sugi ning Brunei, a yang memaluka king Lusung[LUZON] ampon Selurung, kinwa ne bilang asawa ing dayang Mailag, a diwata ning Sapa. Hmmmm, am not sure.. the knowledge about what, who, or where kumintang is is vague...
Some say that Kumintang is the old place name of Batangas I've also read in another source that it is STRICTLY used to refer to the Tagalog dialect used in Batangas(during the precolonial times) Others say that Kumintang refers to an epic sung by the ancient tagalogs... But it could be a place name.... Ever heard of the famous Kundiman, Prinsesa ng Kumintang? My lola(grandma) used to sing this song when my cousins and i were still kids...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6hcEjJkJmI |
