Korea top int’l judo tournament; Vietnam come third

Korea dominated in the 15th Vietnam International Judo Tournament with 8 gold, two silver and four bronze medals, while hosts Vietnam came third.

The second-placed Japan bagged five golds, one silver and one bronze in the tournament at Phan Dinh Phung Indoor Stadium in HCMC on Saturday and yesterday.

Vietnam earned four golds, five silvers and 13 bronzes in the tournament that drew 99 male and 63 female judo athletes from Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei,
Indonesia, the Philippines, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, newcomers Sri Lanka and Vietnam.

In the women’s competition yesterday, Trinh Le Van Anh of Vietnam won Myanmar’s Moe Sandar Tun in the 42-kilogram category’s final to grasp the goal medal, while Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Nhu Y lost to Jo Eun Hwa of Korea in the 63-kilogram category’s final and another Korean Seo Ha Na beat Nguyen Thi Kieu of Vietnam in the 57-kilogram category’s final.

On Saturday, Vietnam Judokas have already snatched three gold medals, the medallists being Vu Hoang Ngoc Nha in the 45-kilogram women’s category, Le Xuan Hoang and Nguyen Thanh Ba in the 50-kilogram and 55-kilogram men’s categories.

Thailand were fourth with one gold, seven silvers and eight bronzes. Myanmar followed with two silvers.

At the 14th International Judo Tournament last year, Vietnam earned three golds, six silvers and six bronzes, ranking second after Korea, who secured 11 golds and one silver medal in the contest that drew almost 160 athletes.
