Does anyone know the difference between Racism and Prejudice? Options

Because I read a lot of it on this site, and the stuff I read just blows my mind. Here's my take on what I believe the difference between racism and prejudice. Racism is when one ethnic group loathes, or hates another ethnic groups for trivial reasons; and prejudice is what we all do, we all pre judge everyone, and everything. So when folks are speaking poorly of black Americans, or white Americans, is it do to pre judging, or just unwarranted RACISM?

Racism and being prejudice are two different things.

yeah i also think racism and prejudice are totally different.

racism - one who has economical, political and social power in society to make life a living hell for a group(s) of people and their descendants.

prejudice - one who holds bias view(s) against a group of people but do NOT have the economical, political or social power to do much about it.

in america, imo only whites have the power to be racist (e.g. deny jobs, deny entrance into colleges/universities, deny small business loans, etc.)

in america, blacks, asians and hispanics can ONLY be prejudice. now, when obama becomes president this might change.

Racism and being prejudice are two different things.

While prejudice is not necessarily racism (i.e. can involve any kind of bias), racism is automatically prejudice since it involves prejudging.

Exactly. Just a subset of the evil ignorance known as prejudice is racism. An indication of a lazy xenophobic who seeks the simplest of all possible options to vent their anger, either because they have nothing else to complain about, or because criticising people over chatacteristics they were born with is a sure-fire example of unrequitable stupidity.

Racism need an institution so laws are passed to enforce said laws!
Ignorance is a basic lack of knowledge on a topic Racialism is isually the invoking of race to perpetuate a cultural ignorance.
Racialim and racism are two different things though they both involve the attempt to put down another group where the former lacks the lawsand the latter has laws in place to enforce the racialism (as in USA where laws existed to prevent person of colour from participating in the democratic process, or declaring some people 3/5 of a person and other absurd Hitlerian comedies
