I'm surprised a thread wasn't posted yet.
I'm not Vietnamese nor a Kung Le fan, In fact, I'm pro Scott Smith. but in the last round, when Smith went to town on Le, I felt really disappointed - maybe crushed. Why can't we have an Asian at the top that can defend his title for at least against 4 Challenges? Why is Pacquiao the only Asian fighter that can stand against fighters of other races? Its almost like we really are physically inferior to other races. |

Cung Le wasn't the middleweight champion entering this fight with Scott Smith. He relinquished his championship belt to take a break to make movies. And if you watched the fight (I was there at the fight), Cung Le was completely dominating until the very last minute of the match. He was spin-backing the guy to the ground, even body-slammed Smith to the ground. You don't see this stuff in MMA/UFC much, only in WWE and Kung Fu movies... Cung is the only guy who can do it. Smith was a lucky bastard and got in a lucky punch. That's basically all he could do, that's his only skill - to be able to take a beating. This was Cung Le's first defeat in his life. and he's now 38. he's won all his SanShou fights and all his MMA fights until this one. I was disappointted, but Cung Le is still da man.
...and for those asians who lost some pride after this fight, you either need to go to the gym and start working out and beat people... or remember the many other asians: Lyoto Machida, Cung Le, PacMan, etc. |

He hit smith with everything he had. He tried disparately to take out smith but he couldn't do it- He even tired himself out trying. smith just punched him several times and Le was down. PacMan is the only one on your list that I think places Asians on the fighting map. He is the Asian others fear to fight. As to your gym remark. I work out 4 times a week at my Thai boxing gym. I'm a good fighter but not professional caliber. Are you saying I have to become UFC middle Weight Champion to feel disappointed about how badly Asians are doing in the fight world? We should be dominating these sports! |

Anyone peep the fu-king rematch? Cung whooped that fu-king @$$. Cung looked like he fu-ked up scotts liver with that last spinning back kick, you could see it in his face. Much props to cung out in SJ. Norcal got some great fighters man, cung le, Nick Diaz, gilbert melendez, frank shamrock, Jake sheilds, Uriah faber, Scott smith, mark munoz...cung is legit tho, that last ko from smith was a fluke IMO, son just got caught, but tonight cung was a beast. Always fun to watch.

Its almost like we really are physically inferior to other races. Well if you look at his kickboxing when he was younger, he's been pretty much undefeated. I say give it some time for pro MMA. Asian Americans are coming up. Not to mention other Asian countries with fighting traditions that aren't even in the game yet. I want to see Kid Yamamoto in the UFC but doesn't look possible anytime soon. This post has been edited by lilasiankid: Jun 28 2010, 11:44 AM |
