Wow. This thread wasn't here this afternoon and after a few hours of napping, I see this thread filled with posts from mentally retarded trolls.

That said, the professor's being much too idealistic, and he seems to have little grasp on politics. First, Korea needs to reunify. And of course, forming an Asian Union with China is out of the question. Japan is a possibility, provided that the Dokdo dispute is resolved. After that we can begin to talk about how this "Asian Union" can proceed. Will it begin with ASEAN? Or a new political union? Stuff like that.

Well, I'm with the annoying China trolls that gets involved in every political subject about Korea (it's as if they want to prove something - that they are the most superior) on this one.

As for the predictions - I'll believe it when it really happens (probably not in my life time).

If there's any kind of initiative toward major labor reforms of those fu-ktard unions, the entire country will be swept up in a revolution. I would say a good five percent of those people get their messages and instructions from North Korea. They'll do everything they can to whip up the other 95% of the fu-ktard union members, the media, and the public into a loud violent frenzy. If there's any hope of labor reforms in South Korea, the labor unions have to be busted and weakened somehow, and that won't happen unless the communist cancer up north is removed.

As for education problems, I believe it can be fixed with a strong leadership in the government. They're the only ones who can do it. Korea's problem is the quality of education at the higher institution of learning. What they have to do is to
totally privatize the universities and open up the education market to foreign competition. Encourage better competitive foreign universities to open campuses throughout South Korea. This will increase the quality of schools, as well as force the Korean colleges to smarten up and compete or else close up shop. Another positive effect will be Korean students won't have to go overseas to study at famous universities, saving foreign exchange that would have helped foreign countries instead of Korea.

But like I said, all these need a strong leadership in the government and forward thinking. I doubt the current leadership is capable of that, especially after the last year's Mad Cow protests which has the government scared of $hitless about offending the public. The mindset of the public needs to be changed in that regard too. But there are too many people who would be opposed to really opening up the country and getting rid of the protectionist barriers. Korean government's plan has always been "we will build it and they will come" - too much focused on building hardware but not enough thought in coding software. Well, anyone can build a computer. But it's another thing to develop software the operating system that will run that computer.
