We are not from Laos or Southeast Asia.

Hmong musician Li Yang, from Guizhou province in China, demonstrates last week how to use a leaf to create music, a centuries-old Chinese tradition, during an appearance at the Hmong charter school in Sacramento, which opened in August. Yang also played bamboo flutes to help teach the students about the Hmong culture's ties to ancient China.

Thanks.

I want to thank my fellow Hmong that I've met and talked to. I've met many Hmong who had been to China and are rediscovering history and culture as well as establishing connection with our brethren from various parts of China. I want to thank in particular the Hmong historians, scholars and those that journeyed way before us back to China. Slowly, we were able to get as much information as possible about who we are --- from our own people in China.

Whether we are Hmong Americans, Hmong Chinese, Hmong Laos, Hmong Australians, Hmong French...... politics shouldn't be involved. Peb sawv daw yog ib haiv neeg thiab ib pab kwv tij Hmoob. I am very proud that our people often do not use politic, but rather culture to establish a common ground.

I think this has been a goal in many of us, "to unite and be one again, as well as to rediscover our history."
