Don't get me wrong I love the Khmer language but I hate it when the actors and celebrities try to sound poetic in their movies and in interviews. I know they don't talk like that in their everyday life. It just sounds generic to me.
Listen to Sokun Nisa talk in the beginning. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFTK7-QWKo4 |

They're just being dramatic. Thats the traditional way to speak in Lakhaon, especially Lakhaon Yikay and Bassac. It's the way Cambodians speak in acting...especially in the old films.

The voice alone gives me an impression of bad acting because we know the actor/actress don't really talk like that in their everyday life. |

I think it sounds cute in that situation because they're wearing classic traditional clothing.
On that note, I tried to get my mom to watch Khmer dramas on youtube without the dubbed voice acting and she doesn't like it lol. She says they sou ugly and look ugly. I myself think they could use a lot of acting lessons to carry their dialogue, but its not bad to hear natural voice. At least its not as fake and "perfect" sounding as the dubb, because no other dubbing company sounds as sexy as Mayura company anyway its too bad they no longer dub. The everday speech that I hear in these modern drama does take some getting used to, and the actors really need an acting 101 course sometimes, and sometimes surprisingly they deliver.. Its a mixed bag! ex http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktPS6lIfayw...feature=related U think it's cute? In most Khmer movies do they still have another person do voiceovers over the actors/actresses voice? I hate that stuff. I prefer to hear them in their original voices. |

yes they still dub movies with khmer voice overs. i cannot stand that. and when they have children in the movie they dub it with a woman's voice trying to sound like kids. it is so annoying, why don't you just hire children to do children voices.

Wiseguy - Just watch the youtube link I posted there.
For the most part, they still do the voice-overs but some companies are moving away from that and just using natural voice like in the video example I posted. |
