Immigrating to Canada Options

Hi all, i've been thinking about migrating from HK to Canada.

I know i'll feel like home since there are many HK people in Canada especially Toronto.

However, I once across this website NotCanada.com.

To be honest, it had me set back and rethink, and now I'm confused like cow in a butcher shop.

is the website the true reality of Canadian new immigrants?

i dont know. there is a chance you may not get the job you are qualified for. my family was different since we own our own business. i know international students love it in toronto...but i dont know much about a recent immigrants job chances for w/e. from what i heard this isnt just canada though....theres been stories about indian doctors having to drive cabs and stuff.

but it isnt impossible obviously.....my family doctor AND dentist is Chinese. the banks my family works with is Chinese. we shop at Chinese malls.....LOL...i think we also use some Chinese engineers or workers for some projects. not sure on that one. my point is plenty of chinese immigrants get a variety of jobs they are qualified for.

Mid-Night-Sun addressed the issue bang on, and also that W5 report as well.
"Locked-out by employer's who want Canadian degrees and Canadian experience. Regulated professions, that almost make it impossible to re-qualify". The key to becoming successful in Canada, is that you have to start your own business that does not involve so much government red-tape. I had to write papers on this issue when I was doing my undergrad. There are pros and cons to Canada being highly regulated and having many social programs. But think about it yourself, and that's what makes Canada THAT much different from the USA. There is less volatility when it comes to social mobility. There is a less divide between the rich and the poor. Canada stops you from getting rich too fast and the same applies for the opposite direction. In Canada its more about We than Me. I know what I'm saying sounds very cliche but it's the Truth. Canada takes the best of both world's as well as the cons, but it is what it is.

I've alwys said; Canada is a nice place to live, but a bad place to try to get rich in.

It's phucking cold in Canada.

Good:

- Nice people
- Clean country
- Relatively safe
- Nice, big houses
- Lots of suburbs

Bad:

- EXTREME weather, never warm or cool, its either SUPER HOT or SUPER COLD.
- Expensive, pay $50 for a shirt and $75 for jeans.
- Bad jobs for immigrants, you will probably end up a laborer or something else. If you have secondary education, they won't credit it because it is 'Asia' (Hong Kong, Japan and Korea will probably be credited though)
- There are some stupid stereotypes for immigrants. I would not move or work in a place with mostly white. Either mostly Asian or half and half.

(Stereotypes like: Short, smart, taking jobs from Canadians, *cough* meaning whites, living on tax payer money, etc)
