I just came back form the Philippines with my family me last week. And after going to so many malls and stores like SM, I wondered what would happen if Wal-Mart or Target decided to open a store in the Philippines somewhere. What would you think? I personally have mixed feelings about it, but do you think it would be a bad idea or good idea?

well in my opinion... filipinos would like it since it's a commodity that has US branding however we don't need it since malls like SM have the hypermarket which is similiar to a walmart or a target..

No way. Support our own malls and promote our own products.

Yeah, buts thats just one store, why limit ourselves to that, when we have thousands of outlets that can support our products? Even though they are Tsinoy owned, they are the ones spearheading the buy Pinoy campaign. |

Thats close to impossible since they will have to compete with all of the SM malls, etc. Besides theres so many places where Filipinos can buy things cheaper than the Wallmart price anyways. It would most likely happen if the Philippines were more than half middle class, since Walmart stores focus mainly on middle class families and individuals. But anytime soon? I don't think so. |

Ah. besides, Wal Mart is kind of like the American counterpart of SM anyways. The best thing we can get out of a Wal mart in the Phils. is a great capitalist competition.
