Greeting All Readers,

I am conducting a correlational study between a person's first job and his/her future career path.

For my first paying job, I started out as a part-time library worker at a university. However, in my present job, I end up working for myself.

So what was/is your first paying job, and why did/have you decide(d) to take that job?

Thank you all in advance for your replies.

Sincerely,
FKR

Hi FKR, my first job is a Machine Operator for a machine shop company. I have no special interest other than making money for paying my bills. Moreoever, my major is Computer Science, and you guess it I plan to work in a computer related field. Don't know what my next job going to be but I am hopeful that it is computer related.

I think for everyone, first job is just for money, no other purpose or reason.

Thank you so very much Thay for your response to my post. I was becoming so pessimistic that I would not be able to gather the data for my conclusion. Thank you for sharing a little bit of your life.

If you don't mind me asking further, Thay, what had you learned from your first job as a "Machine Operator"?

Darn, I just accidently close my broswer and lost what I have wrote!! Anyway, as for what I learned in my first job.

1. Keep your temper down (hard for me to do).
2. Becareful at what you do (don't want to make any mistake).
3. Pay respect to your boss if you want to keep the job.
4. If your boss push u too much, then quit.

By the way, I still work in that job because I am still in school...don't want to find other job right now because I want to spend more time to study than worrying about job.

Hmmm...you are your own boss now? Hire me? embarassedlaugh.gif jk.

Thay, thank you again for your great patience and the wonderful insights you have developed for yourself from your first job experience. It is said that we all have to start some where and use whatever means necessary to advance our career ambition. Thay, yes, I am my own boss, but after owing the IRS tax money from year to year, I would prefer offering my service for another person instead. I wish you the very best in your endeavor, Thay. It is said that a person's luck is actually made up of the person's skills and opportunity. In addition, it is said that it is better to aim for the moon for if you miss it, you still land among the stars.

Best Wishes,
FKR

I like what you wrote here. It is true that everybody have to start somewhere otherwise they wouldn't at all. Although there are some who found their first job as their last job because of their interest in the job.

Kambolizhuz, Pharmacy is a good major because you will make plenty of money when you graduate from college. You can work at Drug store while you going to school. Get experience while in school. Experiences is a priority when you are looking for a job. Most companies prefer professionals who have more experiences then their educational level. I have seen many young girls did that. I think you need to go for more than 4 years in order for you to be a Pharmacist. Just my opinion. As for job stand point, NURSING because you will always get a job when you graduate with a NURSING degree.

Just my opinion,

I think this is a good topic.
Kambolizhuz, if you enjoy chemistry and science in general, pharmacology is the way to go. Nursing is not a bad choice either. Tips for a high schooler: do good in school and you will continue to do good down the road.

My first job: Sales associate at Guess Inc. It was so tiring and lots of folding, I had to quit hehe. My future will not be anywhere near sales or marketing, so I guess first jobs should not have a strong reflection toward your future career goal, I know mine isnt'.

Yup, high school is always good for you. Take that as your lesson for college. Because in college, it is your own money. If you make mistake, then you pay and just delay your education. Take thing seriously in high school so that when you enter college, then everything would be easy (not exactly) for you. beerchug.gif

First job is always suck (to me). First job is just for the money, not for the future. It may also be the lessons that you going to learn to better your future job. biggrin.gif

My first job was also working in a library. It was really fun, when I had time, I paged through books that I like. I've always love books.

My second job was a teacher. Great experience. Now am on my own, no boss around.

Advice to the college newcomer or high students. Take some of your interest course or major course during your first two years of general education. so that way you don't waste too much time. Find out who your college advisor and get to know him/her. Explore the campus during the summer before you start school. Buy books look through it before your class starts. ALSO don't forget, be an EXCHANGE STUDENT once during your college year. Choose a country you like. You will love it and you will always remember it! Great memory!

You should be all set. Welcome to college life! The best experience in your life! I've always miss that time.

Good luck!

heheh...funny. Work is works, whether you like it or not, yo have no CHOICE!! unless your parent is rich ofcourse...as for me, no luck. I'm on my own...Computer Engineering isn't bad if you are up for those MOTHERf...BOARD. I'm a Computer Science, I do a lots of programming and I think you will too (but less) if you considered Computer Engineering as your major. Too bad, there are a very little demand in Computer related field right now. Hopefully, that would change soon. Don't want to graduate without a job!! No money to pay bills!! hehe..

'Thank for the replys Thay and Drunk_on_tea!!
Nursing is not for me for sure, I think they do too much and get paid too less.
I can't even keep my room clean, and that what RN do sometime.
I know a lot about Pharmacy already b/c i had a mentor in 7th grade and it takes six years of college to major in pharmacology and it totally worth it, plus where I live you start off with 30 bucks a hour!!
Don't get me wrong, it not all about the money, I love science, and my parents and I want to shoot for the Pharmacy instead of nursing like my two other cousins since I have maintain a GPA of about 4.0 in my high school career. Mu aunt also suggest nursing to me, but I kind of took it as an insult, like she think I can't make six years in college without getting in trouble with "love".
Well I am glad to hear many of my fellow Khmer that is heading the right path.

There is nothing wrong of having incorrect english. YOU ARE SUPPOSE TO LEARN!! You learn from your mistake, everyone does that. Ignore that Jayson guy. I am in the same road as you. My english isn't poor but my grammar is terrible!! That is why I am a Computer Science!! ehhe...anyway, if you have problem just PM and I'll gave you my e-mail address so you can send me question. Glad to help you if you are willing to ask. beerchug.gif . I am not EVIL!! embarassedlaugh.gif

As for job, the same way it goes. At first you make mistake, then you learned from your mistake. That is what you called experience!! Experience doesn't come without a price. I have make many mistake on my first (current) job. However, I have learned alots from my mistake and as a result I am good at what I am doing right now (Machine Operator). But because my goal is to study Computer Science and get a job that is Computer related.

Don't get sad by what other wrote. Try your best to write it, then fix it.

Almost forgot, I got 2 more years to go. By the way, I supposed to be done if I were in school in the first place. Graduate from high school in 1999 but didn't go back to college until 2002!! No money!! hehe...Works for 2 years then I went back to school. Now, looking for my CS degree. biggrin.gif

Kambolizhuz, PHARMACY IS A GOOD MAJOR. There is nothing wrong with that, if you like it then go for it. Don't go for the money but for yourself. Major in something that you love not someone else like. My father want me to be a DOCTOR!! And I'm ended up with Computer Science because I hate DOCTOR..too long.

CHEER embarassedlaugh.gif
