It might be from what I've read and heard that majority of Madagascar immigrants are from Indonesia and South East Asia and if some of the Malay population don't mix with other races.

It might be not cause it was over 2000 years that the original immigrants have already mixed with the Africans from the main land.

And it's already hard to define one's race when the original immigrants which are the Malays had mixed with other races.

So there is no way to tell what race they unless you look at their features.

There is a chance that you will able to recognise some of the characteristics of a
Malagasy that might be the same as the South East Asian malay.

Or it's been already a long time and somehow the immigrants had mixed alot that they created a new race.

In South East Asia there weren't alot of malays who mixed with other races. So they retain their original characteristics. And so do other races that live in South East Asia.

Since when have we heard of Malays in South East Asia having intermarriages over 2000 years ago?

They still retain their original characteristics till today.

Yeah they do look a little like indonesians. Are they still considered asian though?

Picture of malagasay in Madagascar

This realy simple... Yes they do look like Indonesian, but NO they are not asian cause their country isn't in ASIA, or the Pacific rim. The term "Asian" isn't a race. If your country is the Philippines then you are asian. It's simple Geography

well, i believe they're all austronesoids, there might be a little difference, but not much.
don't know about the rest, but Philippines was once a spanish colony, some filipinos might as well have spaniard blood, thought they're not the majority.
in southeast Asia, there are also quite an amount of ethnic Chinese in the regions. They might have inter-bred with austronesoid natives there as well.
*

But malaysia was once a Brit/Port colony too. Many Malaysians MIGHT have Euro blood, too. There's also a big amount of Malaysian-Chinese, and Malaysian-Indian(not sure about this)

But here in the Philippines, the word "malay" is not a usual term to refer to Filipino natives or race. Usually, Cebuano, Ilocano, Kapampanagan..depends on the region where you came from. it's only in online forums that I've heard about "Filipino Malays"

Malaysia was never a Portuguese colony. The Portuguese only managed to occupy the small state of Malacca.Even under British rule, most Malay states were more like protectorates than colonies.

really? remember in grade school when they taugh the three ancestors, negritos, proto malay and then malay. then all the other ones, like indian, chinese, arabic, american, spanish as peripheral influences.

whenever i read western articles about pi, they'd always refer to as this much this and that "but predominantly malay". in fact it was dr. jose rizal, forgive me cuz i don't know whic document he wrote this, who envisioned a united malay nation, before he was executed by the spanish.

despite being the most liberal govt. in southeast asia, pi still has lots of "majority" over minority base of power.

Sin, provides teh back bone for the Catholics. He's not really an @$$, but I think that the fact the a democracy should exist with total seperation of church and state, his association in politics is bothersome.

especially when he campaigned with Mitra in the nineties (conservative catholic) man i'm christian (but not catholic, in phils. it's really wrong to say that majority coalition is made up by Christians, because altogether Christians are not united at all) and I would have started another People's Power if they got into office and started putting on their laws.

The exact origins of the Merinas is still being debated. Some say they were from South Borneo.Others say they were from South Sulawesi. There are even suggestions that they were from Indochina.shrug.gif

Hello folks, I'm new here so be gentle ok! icon_wink.gif
I'm also from Malaysia, and from experience I find that many Filipinos look quite similar to Malaysians, which cuts across all races. I've been mistaken for a Filipino several times in fact and likewise, I'd recently mistaken a group of Filipino visitors in KL as locals!

Wassup guys? Anyways... my family is has a lineage of Filipino, Malaysian, and Spanish Blood... b/c of my dad's great grandfather was part Spanish and Filipino and my mom's great grandfather too... my mom's great grandmother was Malaysian and Filipino Mixed... and My dad's great grandmother was Filipino.... So I consider myself Filipino, Malaysian, And Spanish...

Vive de largo el nuevo rey de Espaņa! Now all we have to do now, is marry you off to some obscure daughter of King Juan Carlos then perhaps we will help you establish the new Kingdom of the Philippines, and all other countries be protectrates.
