anyone here using netbook? the tiny little notebook?

anyway... i have good news for you.. the nvidia ion chip is coming out..

so if you have atom chip, you can upgrade to ion with declicated video card so you can watch youtube or video streaming with good quality instead of blurry in old atom chip. beerchug.gif

bad news... it's a littel more expensive... but good price anyway.. i think i buy this ion netbook for school purpose and ditch the atom netbook.

o it comes with window 7 preinstall.

Net books are around $200 to $300 dollars ...
If you spend a few hundred more then you can get a regular laptop
with most of the bells and whistles.

Net books ... the way they are now is just not advantageous.
They may be smaller and lighter ... but so is their power.

Still they are a good tool for communicating on the run.
We use them when we work around the country.

Would you rather have an iPhone or a simple phone that only made calls?? embarassedlaugh.gif

Both work ... but, one is more fun to carry around icon_twisted.gif

Size is the main problem.
So our company uses those mini laptops when we travel.

Well duh, people who buy netbooks obviously don't want a "regular laptop".

My Aspire one isn't bigger than a book and weights just 2,17 pounds.

Heck, I can even read my e-books just as I'd read a regular book on it.

It seems some people decided that they wanted to sell less for more and made net books.
Then, the few who thought it was a great idea .. bought them embarassedlaugh.gif

I have a friend who bought one ... it does what he wants it to do ... internet, e-mail
So he can hide his secret affairs embarassedlaugh.gif

Originally we thought of getting those wiz-bang Blackberry or iPhone type of internet mobiles, but our tradies have hands like gorillas, and they would have trouble operating the little buttons.
Now we have the mini laptops, but find that our remote work locations have no internet connections.... icon_sad.gif

yup i'm using an ASUS Eee 1002HA Netbook.. it's friggin awesome for carrying around to classes and on the train. so dam convenient!!! battery life is not as good, but it's so effin pretty w/ the sleek lid and everything

it's running on atom and everything but i think the graphics chip is fine (not sure what make it is but watching youtube vids aren't blurry for me)

would love for windows 7 but that's just superfluous to me right now. icon_smile.gif

oh yeah, got it for AUD$500

the current netbook is running on atom proceessor which is hella slow for streaming video... and graphic is integrated so it's really poor with anything like gaming and graphic $hit. you'll see a huge improvement with delicated video card like nvidia ion. it streams faster and you can watch stuff in HD AND without playback lagging!!

$500aud is kind of pricey for netbook... what that converse to usd? i think netbook is around $300-$400usd..

lol if you plan on buying another one, DON"T!!

there is leaking news that asus will releases a dual core atom with nvidia ion video chip, so you can get both twice as fast and graphic performance.

sort of like 1 for 2 ducks head kind of things. embarassedlaugh.gif

it's really awesome, battery life also improved.. you get like 6 cells battery, equivalent of 6hrs..

all this in just a few more months.. once asus releases this new dual-core atom chip, it wills cripple all netbook competittors. icon_wink.gif

also, i like carry netbook to school for taking note and recording experimental data and stuffs.. so it's very convinient for me. luv it! rockon.gif

Dude, Netbooks are specifically made for browsing the web and office applications. NOT to play games. If you want to play games, get yourself a Gaming Notebook. icon_neutral.gif

You can still play older games like Far Cry and GTA San Andreas on a Netbook though. And it doesn't have any problems with streaming Videos, it can even decode 720p Videos fine and smooth.

I'm running Mac OSX 10.5.6 and Windows 7 Ultimate on it btw.

yes, netbooks used to be for web and office task, but as consumers are more demanding, multimedia feature becomes a MUST. so i guess it depends on what you're looking for in a netbook.

but who play game on notebook anyway? it rathers lame, personally for me. i prefer gaming on desktop. netbook is only meant for personal use.

and then decoding at 720p is alright if you're not the type that care about HD and all that smooth playback crap.. for me, i like watching stuffs in HD, viewing graphic in 3D, and streaming video with 1080p. =p

btw, i was going to get a ion netbook .. but really after i heard about the dual core, i have a 2nd thought but i hate waiting icon_sad.gif

and i love these new sleek design of lenovo s12, running single atom but with ion graphic chip.

comparing this with others.. it definitely hard to decide. bawling.gif

msi wind

toshiba nb200

sungsung 520

hp mini 311

the things all these new ion netbooks are 12" and quite expensive, reaching the level of a regular notebook price.. which is very problematic when i already have a notebook already.

so hard to decide!! icon_confused.gif

I think all moderators would benefit from having a handy little netbook for keeping in touch with the forum, while they are travelling away from home.

Multimedia without a CD/DVD/Bluray Drive that is, yeah? icon_neutral.gif

Once again, Netbooks aren't aimed at people who are looking for these things.

It's you who brought up gaming. LOL So yeah, why would you want to play games on a netbook other than for timepass?

Once again, Netbooks aren't aimed at people who are looking for these things.

you don't need cd/dvd to be enjoy multimedia when everything can be wirelessly connect.

anyway, there's external disk drive nowaday so it's not important to have a an internal cd/dvd disk drive.

sir, i only brought it up to show tissue_box why integrated video cards (like all current atom netbook) are capable of and not capable of sort of thing.

with ion, you can play minimal game with good graphic and fps. don't expect crysis or gta4 or any of the new intensive gaming yet.. it stills run on "atom" chip booo

QUOTE
1080p HD on a 10 inch Display? icon_neutral.gif

yup, there is not much noticeable difference with a 10" display, but thats why all ion netbooks are coming out with 11-12" display to take advantage of the 1080p HD.

but i don't know if it's a smart buy when they do this.. netbook supposed to be affordable and portable, so size and price are really important.

these 12" display is nice but that only means increase price range, size, and weight. it becomes very problematic, especially when it starting to approach the notebook territory... so not sure if i should go ahead with 12" display or not.

it's a big headache icon_sad.gif

i just got one because they were cheap and absolutely hates it!!! the screen is too small, so when ever i go online i have to change the resolutions!
it's really slow and not good for programming because it freezes a lot, especially when i downloaded PSE and dreamweaver. it wouldn't even open the programs sometimes.
i would suggest it for people who just needs something cheap to do their hw.

A friend of mine's got it, got sucked in by its pretty color and small size, but now she regrets it, and considers netbooks as crappy autistic versions of regular laptops.

^netbook is not suppose to be used as main computer.. thats what people shouldn't expect of netbook.

it's slow and not good for doing programing or those resource intensive program like dreamweaver or adobe photoshop.

^ haha...i know now.
i mean, it's not all that bad. but, it just sucks sometimes when you open programs and it freezes on you. however, they come pretty handy sometimes, especially going on trips b/c the batteries last longer and they are really light.
