C'mon in Singaporean neighbour. Be honest now, do you understand all the words to Majulah Singapura? icon_wink.gif

Mahal can mean both love and expensive in Tagalog. Only in Malay does it have one meaning, which is expensive.

embarassedlaugh.gif Malu la... I used to know the words to Majulah Singapura, but now it's gone! Dang! icon_redface.gif

BTW, this may not come as a surprise but young Singaporean kids these days may know more Tagalog words than their own dialects! embarassedlaugh.gif

QUOTE
S'pore has to pay more attention to immediate neighbours: ASEAN Sec-Gen
By Rita Zahara, Channel NewsAsia
Posted: 27 February 2006 2103 hrs

The Secretary-General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has called on Singapore to be more attentive to its immediate neighbourhood, and that is ASEAN itself.

Speaking at the Organisational Learning Conference, ASEAN Secretary-General Ong Keng Yong said Singapore needs to encourage the learning of more and varied languages and cultures.

And it needs to venture more strongly into ASEAN in addition to the places outside Southeast Asia where Singapore has already carved out niches.

Mr Ong said: "Singapore should develop multilateral partnerships in areas of critical importance such as environmental protection, tourism, health, labour and youth enterprise. We have to bear in mind that the virus does not respect national borders. Singapore cannot simply inoculate or 'Tamiflu' itself from communicable diseases." - CNA/ir

The Sec-Gen is a Singaporean. Is he not saying the obvious? Talktohand.gif

Even on a forum such as this, there is no love for a Singaporean subforum amongst the other asians. embarassedlaugh.gif

Aeroforce, I got this info off some friends for you. There are 3 opposition members in parliament:

1) Worker's Party - Mr Low Thia Khiang (MP of Hougang SMC)

2) Singapore Democratic Alliance - Mr Chiam See Tong (MP of Potong Pasir SMC)

3) National Solidarity Party - Mr Steve Chia (Non-Constituency MP) - Steve was the opposition member who got the highest vote among those not elected, hence was offered the NCMP position.

The country will be facing a general election real soon. It will be the first test of the new Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong's mandate over the tiny island state.

There aren't enough active SG members cuz they dont' hv a subforum to stick around and chat.. Most SGs would refrain from chatting in other subforums abt SG because they get poked in the eye by nice folks like u!! hehehe... (see what I mean?) embarassedlaugh.gif

In my defence, I only tease people I know! icon_redface.gif The Singapore sub-forum is your typical chicken and egg story. More forummers hence the need for one on on hand, or build and they will come on another? Iono. dntknw.gif

I love sop buntut (oxtail soup) from the Borobudur Hotel in Jakarta. Never tasted anything as divine as that sop buntut ever again!
