What would you say is our national dish if you could only choose one. Which of these dishes would you say represent Khmer cuisine best?

Somlaw Machew
Num Pa-chuk
Lok Lak

If I forgot to mention any please feel free to add it. In my opinion I like beef sticks but I feel it doesn't represent khmer cuisine. Out of the three I listed I think lok lak taste the best but I still feel it doesn't represent khmer cusine best due to the fact that other asian nations have similar dishes. In my opinion I think Nom Pa-chuck or Somlaw Machew best represent khmer cuisine with me giving the edge to somlaw machew.

reason why I pick somlaw machew over num bajuk is because I feel noodles wasn't originally khmer and brought over to us via chinese or viets. I might be wrong though.

num banjok has been around for ages lol I don't think its been brought by neither Chinese nor Vietnamese.

Mee prefix - chinese
ban prefix - most likely vietnamese

you see? Nom banjok is neither chinese nor vietnamese.

Anyway Khmer have a lot of foods and that papaya salad is still debatable.

as for what represents Khmer the best, it has to be prahok or any dish with the Kroeung paste.

I always thought noodles originated from the chinese that's why I typed that. I agree with you about papaya salad being debatable though.
