I recently stumbled upon this song by Zitten featuring Han Hee Jung. Not even 1 minute in, I fell in love with it. No one's seemed to have uploaded the song/video on YouTube or any website for that matter, however you can listen to it here at my tumblr. I am a great fan of Korean dramas and am three quarters of the way through the epic 200 episode historical "Emperor Wang Guhn". Hundreds and hundreds of actors and extras with many battle schenes etc. My question is how in the world can Korean television financially support such massive undertakings. This is just one drama out of many produced each year. Hollywood produces a similar movie of 2 or 3 hours duration and they thing they have accomplished something. Perhaps someone from Korea can shed a little light on this.

Unlike American day time soap opera, Korean dramas have lots of outdoor scenes, especially historical dramas.What I heard was, besides commercial revenues, they get royalty revenues from foreign TV stations and DVD distributors. There are also many established locations either their own or use them under long term contract. That saves money. Many old dramas were filmed in the Korean folk village, too. |
