QUOTE (Mid-Night_Sun @ Dec 21 2005, 03:14 PM) LOL! so true. He makes fun of Vietnamese all the time, but I just take it with a grain of salt. I mean, seriously, does he get off on making fun of southeast asians? I don't even bother making up a large argument mainly because I find the guy sort of humorous in a sad way. anyways, back to the topic, chinese girls are hot, whether they be from the north or south! I don't live too far from a couple different chinese communities, and I see some beautiful ladies. In fact, im going to be eating christmas dinner at a Chinese restaurant. They make an excellent rice with crab meat. |

oh yes, I used to speak 潮州 wah fluently too since I was basically grown up with my grandmother who always talked to me in 潮州 wah when I was young. But right now, I can only understand it but not really able to talk in 潮州 wah.

I speak Mandarin better than Cantonese. I have been consider Mandarin superior
to Cantonese, but I changed my attitude after learning that Mandarin adopted more words from Manchurin than Cantonese did. By this experience, I think racism against other people, or thinking that Mandarin is superior over other dialegs is the symtom of childish or ignorance. |

I am Vietnamese. I do not care about your attitude toward me or my people.
I realy care about you, a person sometimes somewhere making fun of others, whoever they are, Vietnamese or anyone else. You would be fine treating everyone the same. |

It's the other way around.
Inferiority Complex with Hong Kong Cantonese against "poor, uneducated, farmer" mainlanders. |

thats weird man. All the Cantonese/HK people from my university, they never have any relations with vietnamese at all. I'm ashamed to say it but some of them say a lot of $hit about vietnamese people. and so do mainlanders. And they do associate with mainland people as well but perhaps aren't as close.
Yes, that's often the case in Australia at university. i said not that they tried to be dark
Left one is Cantonese, right one is Beijinger ![]() Left one same girl (Cantonese) ![]()
the girl on the LEFT IS SO BEAUTIFUL! I've been around some chinese people that didn't like be because I spoke canton. A group of guys went up to my friends and I and told us that our language sounds like crap and for us to learn mandarin. They also said that its because of us that people make fun of chinese people saying ching chong ching all the time. I also knew some chinese girls at my school that hated canton language and their music becuase they said it sounds stupid and that it doesnt sound "chinese." But what does chinese sound like then? Anyways there are some @ssholes like them around and the best thing to do is to fight them so you can shut their mouth because thats what I did everytime

QUOTE (~Theta~ @ Dec 19 2005, 03:34 PM) If that is true, I don't think my father and mother would have ever married each other then. There are about 56 ethnic minorities in China. We've learned to accept and even embrace each other's differences, so what makes Mandarin and Cantonese, both who are Han, so hard to accept each other? How can it be accepted The term Han was not used to indicate the Chinese. It was used to unified the people together to overthrow the Mongols away from China. That concept began to be popular but after that everyone was on their own local identity again. In the beginning of 1900s, there was a need for national identity and patriotic image. So the Han fit really well. Now the archeaologists and scientists are doing their works to find out the roots of North and South both culturally and genetically. |

I've personally never received any racism, but a few of my friends from the mainland have told me that in certain areas, it's better to speak English and not mention that you speak any Cantonese. I guess that could be true to a certain extent, but when it boils down to it, I don't think anyone really cares.
