Does anyone know whether there are health risks associated with eating raw fish?

I read something on the internet some time ago about worms in raw fish...so sushi meat had to be frozen for at least 7 days before it could be used so as to kill of the worms and eggs.

At first I thought that it was just a "joke" article...but still, I would like to find out some more. So... does anyone know? Anyone know any sushi chefs who can give their opinion?

Yep.... that is what I saw... like I said... it was probably a hoax, but I would still like to hear from someone who works in the Sushi field.

Basically, worms can be present in some raw fish meat and sauces.... which is why travellers are advised against eating such things, like in Vietnam.

Last time I visited Tokyo, I kinda like eating at a local shabu-shabu. Though not of the best and authentic kind, at least you can eat all you can sushi at that place. That's just neat!

Yep.... that is what I saw... like I said... it was probably a hoax, but I would still like to hear from someone who works in the Sushi field.

The hoax added that the fish is straight from the net, meaning unprepared and thus the worms are there. But yeah, if it is possible, the immediate vicinity of the stomach will be affected and not the brain.

I think there's a grave misunderstanding that Japan is a wild and horny place. It is not. Most Japanese cities have salary men shifting in and out, and students going to school following strict schedules. School life and the office environment in Japan is very rigid and conservative.

Japanese do NOT, absolutely do NOT eat off of naked women and there are no "worms" inside of fish. Where do you get this kind of imagination!?

Japan is a very sanitary country with extremely high life spans reflecting the good hygeine of the people. Japanese chefs are highly skilled and food is prepared in clean environments. Worms in sushi!? That's just ridiculous. That's a story that more suits China. My parents used to live in China and my dad's business partners have often had to go to hospitals because of insect infestations in their internal organs. Mind you that was 20 years ago and conditions have gotten significantly better. But it's still not too rare to hear something like that in China.

Then again America's not one to talk too. I hear Wendy's is serving human fingers in their chile.

gotta keep up with the news. the entire thing was a scam by some woman so she could sue them. And i wouldn't get to offended. I've heard many idiotic comments made about all kinds of nationalities and races including my own. For the most part I try to let it slide..
