Well it's better to forgive and forget. I mean the U.S killed 2 million civilians in the Vietnam war and that was basically genocide right there. But when Bill Clinton visited Vietnam practically every Vietnamese wanted to shake his hand and were cheering for him.
Even Vietnam didn't want South Korea to apoligize for their atrocities. Vietnam just said they just wanted to concentrate on the future with South Korea and not dwell on the past. |

Also the Americans had atrocities.. but nohing near the level of brutality and cruelty such as Japan. Germ warfare, biological experiments, bayonett, gas, acid, beheadings, mass murders are somethings that Vietnamese didn't have to experience compared to the Chinese. As you said.. Bill Clinton visited Vietnam and the US has improved relations greatly. The same cannot be said for Imperial Japan who was never punished hard enough for its crimes, never apologized, never compensated and even tried to cover it up. It is important to think of the future and not dwell too much in the past, but sometimes when things are that serious, you cannot simply put it down. Many Chinese, including myself, have grandparents and relatives victims of Japanese brutality. |

Well US soldiers did rape Vietnamese women, used vietnamese peasants for shooting pracitices, killed children and babies. And most of it was done because the U.S needed high casuality counts to show the U.S public how great they were doing.
They even said: "If it moves and it's not American then it must be a Vietcong." Basically any Vietnamese counted as a Vietcong to them, so they can get high casualities. South Koreans (troops) tore Vietnamese peasant limb from limb when they tied them up. And they killed any Vietnamese peasants that they saw. Basically Vietcong would take Americans as prisoners but any South Korean they captured they would excecute right on the spot for their atrociites. Japan was wrong with the Nanjing massacre as well.
